I just returned from vacation and my new turbo from Cottons is here(CPT66 BB ) I am pretty new to the turbo scene in general so I am not sure if this is normal or not.
The new turbo seems to have lateral shaft movement of about .015
Is this normal play for a Turbonetics BB Turbo? Will this be taken up with oil?
Thanks
Bryan

When I bought my TE61 brand new from John Craig, I checked for shaft play and found about the same. It was non BB but I think all turbo's have some shaft play... of course up and down.

.015 doesnt seem like much. i just got mine back from precision and i would messure its play if i could but im over seas. maybe someone will chime in here. i dont think thats much play.

Shaft play

Give Jack Cotton a call and ask him what normal/acceptable tolerances are on the shaft. He's a straight up guy.

I think an oil film will just about clear that up. I know my 62k mile turbo wheel has some lateral play after sitting for a long time but after it is ran a little the oil film just about takes everything out. I'm sure I have more than .015....just a thought.
