Shifter adjustment?

Hey guys, I've had my 87 GN for a few months....it has an art carr tranny and art carr non lockup converter with a stock shifter handle. For some reason 2nd is very hard to get into and once you get into it it's hard to get back into Drive. I've never been able to get it into first. I mean this all by shifting the shifter manually. Park through drive it switches in between no problem. Is there some kind of adjustment I need to look at?

If you disconnect the cable at the trans and try and pull it int L1 is it ok then? Maybe its way out of adjustment.

No I have not. I will try it. I am still new to this car. Anyone have a detailed instruction how to adjust the cable?

There is no adjustment of the stock shifter cable. The rod linking to the column does have adjustment, but should not affect 2nd gear.

Probably a bad cable?

there is also some adjustment at the point where the cable attaches to the shift lever on the side of the trans.it is a 15mm nut
