My brother is getting ready to order a set of slicks and pick up some cheap steel wheels.

His car has GNX fender flares and is running a 10" wheel with a 1/4" spacer right now. What is the best size wheel and proper backspacing for a set of slicks.

He's looking at around a 10.5" tire that is 28" tall.

Again what is the best wheel size and backspacing and what slick would you suggest.

He's getting ready to drop a lonnie diers top of the line trans in it, so he wants to take full advantage of it.

I routinely run 1.4x (best of 1.41) 60' times with MT 28X9 ET Drags.....put 'em on 15X8 wheels with 4" backspace...no problem

28X10's on a 10" wheel need some fender and frame work, unless you go with a BS that sticks 'em outside the fenderwell....plus there is nothing to gain with the bigger tires (unless you want a true 28" height vs the 27" height on the 28X9's)

for a 9 sec car, go with the 28X10's....anything else, they are not required

28 x 10's work fine on a 8.5" wide Centerline rim like a Convo Pro. These come with a 3 3/8" BS and fit without rubing. You may have to roll the fender lips. Mine were already rolled so I have no idea if these will fit without rolling.

28/10.5 on a 8.5" wheel with 4.'' bs work on some cars, BUT on most you need to roll the inner fender like c&cgn said.

So the consensus is...

8" rim with 4" backspacing with a 28x9 tire

8.5" rim with 3 3/8" BS with a 28x10 tire but will need fender mods.

What slick does everybody like? Hoosier or MT?
