Since Ive had this car, it has had high 900 o2 wot's and upon decel, it puts out alittle black smoke. It also never feels consistant. Even after fixing cracks in manifolds over and over, and putting o-rings in throttle body, it gave no change. Well, today I discovered a small leak in i.cooler. If I blow in with mouth, real fun, its just enough to hear and form bubbles of soap. So, I am just wondering if this is the reason this car has always been rich. I figure 17 psi will blow alot harder than me, but I just dont know about how much cfm can get past the hole. I do realize the incoming air is read by the MAF , and with the hole, not all of it makes it into motor thereby richening mixture.
Anyone have a small i.cooler that affected their wot o2's?

Thanks

I fixed it , and it didnt help. Still hi o2's and ping. Who cares anyway.

Sounds like its just in a rough state of tune these days huh. Mine too, but as long as i can drive it around i guess its alright. I just blew an intercooler hose off yesterday, now i gotta take the front end off to hook it back up : (

Back your fuel pressure off a little or get a chip burned for it. It may just want more boost or less FP. I bet the ping is from being too rich, 900s are really rich in my experience and caused knock like your talking.

Peace man

Yea, ill try to back off fp...this motor is new and both leaking manifolds were welded, and i put on gaskets this time. But , alas, i already hear a ticking from pass side-very light sound. Onnly other thing I can think of is a leaking throttle body. I did put in new Harwall seals , but its quite worn. On a thread about this, no-one thought that this could cause hi -o2's. It does whistle sometimes on a cruise, and give some tip-in stumble.
Im quite amazed that a leaking inetercooler hardly affected anything.
Jacob, are ya home for the turkey this week, going to Steele any? Skillet, the head of Bhamracing .com got a sweet 87 T-Type. I have great luck tuning his car. :D

Bad thing about welding headers is that often times, the areas that get welded become annealed and far more prone to cracking in the future. Unless the welder has a solid understanding of metallurgy, and has a heat treating oven, you will likely end up with a bad header. I bought some JBA headers for my cobra back when I had it. The welding job around the primaries/flange were pretty sloppy, so I decided to grind the ports and do a good gasket match. Well, the metal was so annealed that I was able to grind the ports and welds with a regular high speed steel die grinding bit. I should only have been able to grind it with a stone. The JBA's had a rep for cracking all the time, and now I knew why. JBA didnt know crap about metallurgy. It takes some homework, and some understanding of what happens to the molecules when you heat it and then quench it. The tempering temps, and quenching process have everything to do with what you end up with.
