I just installed an xp fuel pump, and still have the passenger side of the car up on the jackstand, and tank on the ground. Got everything hooked up, got fuel pressure, so I decided to crank her up. The battery is low so I let it run for about 2 or 3 minutes and observe smoke starting to come up from underneath. I looked under the car and it a good bit of smoke is coming from the crossover pipe area. Now my crossover pipe has a little extra length welded in due to poston headers. The smoke seemed to be coming from that welded area. Turned the car off, checked the oil shows a qt low with car on 1 jackstand. Rubbed my finger on the welded piece of the crossover and theres oil on it. WTF is up with that?? Any ideas guys?? TIA...Mark

WTF yourself!

If the car is jacked up on one side, several thigs will happen:

  1. The dipstick will read incorrectly.
  2. The oil in the valve covers will ride up next to the breathers and leak.
  3. The leaking oil will drip down the side of the motor.
  4. That leaking oil will hit the downpipe.
  5. The oil hitting the downpipe will smoke.
    [/list=1]

What I want to know is: How/why did you start the car with the gas tank lying on the ground?

I had installed a new hot wire kit too, and had to do a lot of re-wiring, it was a nightmare. When I finally got fuel pressure my battery was almost dead but it did crank. Tanks goin back up pronto, I figured thats what it was man its just been a long couple a days. A little overcautious I guess, thanks msn
