In my early 20s I was 6'1" and 210#, and I hit the gym 3-4 nights a week. I could bench 275 for reps, straight bar curl 145# for reps, and I had stout deadlift, shrugs, and lat excersises. Now in my mid 30s I'm 6'1" 210# and haven't had a gym membership in 4 years but being in the masonry trade helps me maintain, especially having to do bull work all day when we have guys not show up. I can't rep 275 any more but, I've had dedicated weight lifters who work in "cleaner" trades come up to me amazed at how I can lift and toss 80-90# bags of cement and mortar around all day.

Working out has been part of my life since I was a young buck...i have lifted 455-5 times as my max(less than 1 year ago) and never tried to see what my max really was one time...I get in and out of the gym and find it hard to stay with it 100% like when I was younger and had less on my plate...I also weigh in at 270+ depending and I fluxuate from 260-290 in weight depending on what routine im doing,no additives needed to gain here, its more of a battle for me to lose it...

I recently got my 12 year old in Lifestyles and I know what is and isnt good for him and I now will be leaner as im on the cardio with him..The weight training in modest will help him with BJJ...He may be 12 but he is 5'8 156 and has a great temperment unlike me...

I could not ever stop working out,its part of me and what I do..I never have been into Sqwats but I have extreme leg strength...Benching is my favorite and back in the day I did it 5 times a week,If you want to say its not good to do it 5 times a week, get in line..Ive heard it before and dont really care,im 37 and never have had a injury and my gains are sky hi ...I can say "It works for me"...I dont need to rest in between sets and I dont get tired, for me its my warm up before my workout..

When I was into powerlifting I Benched 350 for 4 reps, Deadlifted 525 and squated 575 for 4 reps. I just lift now to stay in shape????? Im 6'3 and 240lbs. Need to drop about 25 lbs.

so no amateur power lifters here? anyone compete? I don't due to injuries :(

pops is insane, 70 years old, 181 pound class, benches 400+ like butter (countless city, county, state, national and world records). He used to compete in all 3 but as he got older strickly just benches now.

that wilks formula is somewhat accurate, I prefer it to use age as another variable to points because AGE is relevant imho, well when calculating for best lifter at least. Its not really fair when an old guy is competing against a young blood, but no matter my pops wins most of the time anyways. I guess its not really fair for the young bloods to compete for best lifter against real champions. Against guys who not only have countless records but they actually only break the old existing record by a few pounds so next year they can come back and break their own record again lol, thats NUTS!

This Wilks Value of 124.033 is for a Man with a body weight of 82.1 kgs and a lift amount of 407 Pounds. No gay music, no slapping in the face, no yelling, no roids needed. TECHNIQUE is the key, balance, focus, and centering your mind and body as 1 to complete your bench. Not getting pumped up like a meat head imho but of course, I weigh 155 and can't even bench the bar. But I have only lived with a world champ for 28 years of my life, what the f do I know.

Rudy Lozano will be @ the staples center for the Fit Expo coming up, and again he will be benching over 400 hopefully if he can stay healthy.

props to all CALM, dedicated powerlifters out there, its a very intense sport. but in that sport you quickly find out who wants it and who doesn't. I lost count how many "tuff guys" I sent to work out with my dad and they last a few weeks lol but most of them don't like the pain (which is needed). I can go on, they don't like the diet needed, the rest, the recovery ect ect. Its a BIG cylce and it has to be completed in order to get stronger the right way.

thats enough, have a great day lifters!

I compete. Its been a while but ill get at least one in this coming year. Probably at 242 if i can stay focused long enough. 800/540/760 would be nice  There is a guy here locally who is now 65 and can still deadlift 500+@<165. He has the WPA world record for 60-65. I think it was 505. You are correct about the burnout rate of other tough guys. Over the years a lot of them i trained with came and went. Most dont last more than a couple months and disappear.

1.) More than you.
2.) More than you.
3.) More than you.

Imo you should have asked what is the biggest lifts you have done that are official lifts or video evidence of gym lifts. Its a lot different in a contest when you have 3 judges watching. A lot of guys guys gym lifts would be red lighted.

Couldn't agree more. I've benched 285 at a bodyweight of 160...in competition.

I compete. Used to do the 3 lift meets. Getting ready for a bench only meet (IPA).

The effects of the heavy weights (squating/DL) are starting to catch up to me especially my hips.

At the gym where I train, we are going to start training program like the WSM contest. We just some big tires and the molds for the large round stones. I'm all excited for the WSM training...strength training with cardio.

Im shooting for 405lb on bench by July 23. Thats my 40th birthday. It has always been a goal. Im at 365lb right now... I am 6'7" so I have long arms. Bench has always been a problem for me.
ur old!! hahah j/k, I'll be 40 feb 12 and going back in the army:eek::eek::eek:

You's some strong mother ******* in here. Good job. I wish I could do that weight. I'd love to bench at least 200. That'd be perfect.
Tell ya what though. Try puttin on a 70 pound rucksack, 20 pound equipment suspenders, grabbin a rifle, and roadmarchin 20 kilometres inside of 2 & a half hours :)

My Cousin was a powerlifter back in the mid 70's. That is when the KARATE Craze was coming of age.

We use to go to new england meets & he would enter the power lifting contests. He peaked just right and won many throphys.

We also use to go to the Arm Wrestling meets. Those were WILD!

Then came the steroids & he was never the same. he chased the dragon & lost.

Back in his day he was 185/95 in weight

The 3 dead lifts were 600, 615, 625
The Squats I think were in the 400 lbs range
The Bench was in the high 300's I think.

We met TEDDY ARCIDI that dude could bench press.

My weight was 130 & my bench was 190 in my day (long time ago) :frown:
