Being a smaller guy, I was always more interested in percentages. ie' benching 2x your body weight, curling 1x your body weight, deadlifting 3x, etc.. I run about 170lbs and can bench 320, curl 140, deadlift 445.

Guys who weigh 275, and bench 450 just dont impress me.

I agree. I always noted my weight with my bench. My all time best was 480 bench at 192 pounds. Now with kids, own business and wife. I weigh a lot more and bench less. But I started back up a few months ago. Mostly focused on weight loss and cardio for now. I do weights 3 times a week at lunch. But plan to start really pursuing it again once get rid of the gut. I did manage 405 twice a few weeks ago.

Im shooting for 405lb on bench by July 23. Thats my 40th birthday. It has always been a goal. Im at 365lb right now... I am 6'7" so I have long arms. Bench has always been a problem for me.

I can bench press 40 lbs once or twice what do I win:biggrin:

405! That's my life time goal which I don't think I will ever reach. Dam, 6'7 365.... you are a monster.;)

A lot of people fail to take arm length into consideration when bench pressing. The longer ur arms are the further u have to travel. Guys with short arms always have the advantage which is why world records are usually set with guys with short arms.

Same can be said for the squat as well. The longer ur legs, the further distance u have to carry the weight.

Not sure how much arm length plays a roll in the deadlift tho.

I find the same thing because I have long arms as well being 6'4". The guys that usually seem to put up a lot of weight at the gym are the guys that have a stocky build. Most I ever did on flat bench was 345lbs, but I was never really to dedicated to lifting as I was only lifting like 2-3 times a week. As far as squats go I never really got into doing them because I injured my knee at a young age playing basketball for school and my doctor told me to avoid doing squats with heavier weight as it would make my knee worse over time. I personally feel every person has certain strengths and weaknesses depending on your body type and genetics. I seem to have very strong lats and shoulders. In high school I always put up a lot of weight doing military press.

strength isnt everything, it helps but sometimes too much focus is put on it.

True, if ur a figure skater. But if ur a power lifter strength means everything.

in power lifting its the only thing. Anyways, I was referring to other sports but your talking about strictly lifting...my mistake.

Im getting back into it next month, i got too much going on now. I guess im the light weight of the bunch im skinny/lanky. I started messing around and got up to 275 (benching only) & a few sit ups. then listened to Bison on a few tips and techniques and a few websites he gave me about warming up I got up to 305 like 2 maybe 3 times then all of a sudden its like i took a nose dive and quit.
I weigh 175lbs @ 6'2" and i turned 38 in Sept. although im very handsome.:D

Starting in Feb up to spring/summer months im shooting for 315-325. In bench and will start on the legs and backs this time, so i may achieve my goal yet. Ive been skinny all my life (150-165)this is the most ive ever weighed, well, i got up to 180 when working out but im back @ 172/175.

gotta lot of work to do next month. Lets just say im letting my body rest.:D

And oh yeah Bison is Most likely right about deadlifting being the most out of the 3 you've chose Bret to determine strength.

But when you walk up to a joker on the streets to determine strength a person wants to know...

HOW MUCH CAN YOU BENCH???

I am 6'7" 275lbs. I dont weigh 365...thats what I am benching right now. If I weighed 365 I would be in the NFL.:)

I just pick a nice round number like 450 and tell them that even though its lower than the actual number. They dont believe it anyway so what does it matter? Then they usually tell me a story about how a friend of a friend can do more:rolleyes:. I could tell much more about a persons strength and athleticism by their vertical jump and bodyweight.

Strength and speed speed are the most important physical aspects of an athlete.

I could tell much more about a persons strength and athleticism by the following.

Strength: The willpower to replace them head gaskets again

Athleticism: How fast they remove the motor...again

Anyway my ligaments are damaged and Arthritis has riddled my joints from lifting for years...bearly lift my self out of bed.

Now an old friend of mine...his dad who has to be in his mid 70's now was an Iron Worker.. at a time when men were men and sheep were scared, he had mits the size of baseball gloves and he could prolly still crush each and every one of us on a bad day.

Billy T has some tremendous strength.

I remember reading once that his upper body strength was six times more powerful than that of an adult human - enabling him to lift, break, and squeeze heavy objects

At 275 Ur still a monster..... Dam, 6'7!!! We need to recruit you to come work in our PD.

1.) More than you.
2.) More than you.
3.) More than you.

Imo you should have asked what is the biggest lifts you have done that are official lifts or video evidence of gym lifts. Its a lot different in a contest when you have 3 judges watching. A lot of guys guys gym lifts would be red lighted.

1.) True.
2.) True.
3.) And True.....

But I still get more puntang than you could ever dream about.....;) And as far as video evidence goes? I got plenty of that to.....:p

Headgaskets: check
Engine removal: pretty slow. I guess I'm useless...

There's some pretty big guys here. I used to feel strong when I was younger... Bench was 305, Squat was around 405 and I could shrug 405, Never did much deadlift- bothered my back too much-of course this was in my late 20's 5'8" 170lbs. These days, with back, shoulder and wrist issues, well, it's not that much but I haven't lifted seriously in a while- that and too many 12oz. curls have buffed me up to 216lbs. Ugh, it sucks getting older.

Besides, don't want my forearms too big because then I can get my arms in to those tight spots to reach an elusive bolt...

Is not about quantity but quality. Ive had some top notch stuff. Lots of 8's a couple 9's and one or two 10's. You settle for the 3's and 4's. You love that ghetto chit with 3 or 4 kids with non matching fathers. I wouldnt even use that chit as a slump buster:tongue:. The last thing id want to see is video evidence. The thought of that is damn scary.
