Watch out for these crooks:

Software-HQ

I feel like an idiot, but I was searching for Nero (DVD burning) software and came across a site whose URL was a variation of "Nero 8" and was actually the Nero page right down to the copyright notice at the bottom. When I completed the transaction for the software a message on the right side of the screen appeared indicating that I had just paid $19.95 plus $14.95 for some other 'feature'. The text and checkbox for this other fee was hidden in dark blue text on a blue background until I paid.

Then after I paid the web page changed and I learned that what I really 'bought' was access to downloads at CNET.com, which is free anyway. These people have nothing to do with Nero or any other software company for that matter. Freakin' crooks. They have a 14-day 'money back guarantee' (less a $5.99 "processing fee") but after researching them on the 'Net there's not much chance I'll get my $35 back.

Did you pay with a credit card??? If so, dispute the charge.
Folowing instruction of your card to dispute the charge.
Then I would watch for bogus charges on your card for the next several months.

Yes I paid with a CC. It's an Amex with no limit which is scary. I called them yesterday and demanded a refund. They said they'd issue a refund less the $5.99 'transaction fee'. When I asked why, she said it was their 'policy'. I asked if their 'policy' took into consideration that the basis for the transaction was a scam. She said it's not a scam. I said fine, I'll just dispute the charge and get it back that way. She then said in this drippy, fake-nice voice "Have a GRRRREAT day, sir!".
