i dropped the tank to put a new walbro in my ttype i decided to clean the tank so i filled it with water and acid and some degreaser shook it up a bit and i let it sit for a while i went to my local speed shop to get some parts and my girl was having a fit because it smelled like gas which it did and i have a 15 month old... so i left the tank next to the car right next to the car. instead of the backyard...... an hour passes i get back tank gone wtf??? no one saw anything?? must have been those guys that drive around collecting metals to sell to the recycler's DAM! do you believe this Chit... Who the hell takes an old ass gas tank?

Wait till they use that "gas" you left in it.

I think the turbo tanks have a baffle around the pickup so fuel doesn't slosh and uncover it.

i think your right squid i did see like a baffle plastic type of deal when i took the pump out

Meth is a hell of a drug

Before reading this I thought that maybe they actually removed it from your car. Check Craigslist for a "Monte Carlo" gas tank.

Hey guys...I picked up a new gas tanks today and was wondering if there are any instructions on-line that tells me how to replace it. Funny thing was, the "parts Store" sold it to me with some sort of race gas already in it. Sweet deal if you ask me. The guy said it was a special blend of race gas. Something like 140 octane. Man, my car should FLY!!!!

Sorry couldn't resist. Can't belive anyone would steal a gas tank. Have any buddies that live near by? Maybe their pullin a fast one on you? But GEEZE......steal a gas tank. I'm getting SICK of all these low lifes around these days.

My son had a small pile of brake rotors stolen from his house the other day. I'd check local scrap also , asap.

nope no friends around here...trust me my friends no better than to touch my Buick chit.. but anyways it was filled with acid the guy who took the tank or 2 guys w.e they got burned for sure or the truck surely suffered paint damage... it had muriatic acid and none was on my floor they picked it up and put it in there truck or w.e they had im sure they regret taking it...but w.e hey chit happens learn from it... better the tank than the car... im sure it was some guys just picking up metals and they thought i was throwing it away it looked old they shouldnt have taken it but they didnt touch the old walbro nor the wd40 i had next to the tank.. i even had some tools next to the tank... also a cop lives in front of me but at the end of the day its my fault i should have put it in the back of the house not in the grass next to my car...

You likely ruined it w/ the muratic acid, anyway. That stuff will eat the galvanizing off the tank, and hasten rust formation.
And, yes, the tank should have the plastic baffle/bucket in it.

Considering the times we live in, the thieves will probably sue you for letting them steal a tank of unsafe hazardous materials and for the damage to their ride and themselves... AND they'll probably win!:rolleyes:

X2 I was thinking the same thing! It's a messed up world we live in!

Man I hope they pour that crap into their gas tanks. I've got some 5 gallon gas cans that I have labeled "Diesel" that I store race gas in.

Man that sucks !!
Back in 1972 my dad pulled the Muncie M25 tranny out of his 64 Corvette to replace a gear that broke on a panic, 3rd to 1st downshift in below zero weather. Left the tranny next to the Vette and went to the parts store, 40 minutes later the tranny was gone. This was a semi rural neighborhood, never found it. Ended up with a M22 until the correct M25 replacement was found. We did a body off resto on that car and when I turned 18 he handed me the keys!! Wasn't a gift but I daily drove it for about 2 1/2 years, what a blast!!
