I want to replace my U-Joints with Spicers..anyone have a part number for 87 GN...

I pulled out my invoice from 2001 and it's pretty hard to read, but looks like "5.737X". Because it's hand written that's the best I can do. Hope that helps.

Don't really know. Everyone says they're the best available, and they're a lot beefier than the stock ones. But I didn't cut one open to see :D

OK do they have grease fittings?...If not then it's safe to assume they're solid...

Bump of an old post

I was searching the archives for the Spicer U-joint part numbers and came up empty handed so I figured I'd bump this one up.

I got the following Spicer part numbers from the local drive shaft shop:

Front (grease fitting): 5-3147
Rear (solid): 5-795X

Haven't installed them yet, but I assume they're correct.

HTH,
Jim

Do not install the greasable U-Joint in front or back. If you break one on a high boost launch chances are something in the trans will let go as well. Always use solids on both ends. Trust me, been there done that. Makes a mess in the trans too

Thanks! I'll swap the greasable for a non-greasable.

I can assure you if you brake one on the launch that the Trans is history along with the exhaust system. I proved that last year in Vegas.

I'm tired of the exhaust system anyway. The trans, however, I'd like to keep around.

Right now I get a clunk and "ringing" in the drive shaft when I drop it into gear. I'm pretty sure it's the back u-joint. I'm going to replace both, though, before I run it at Island on Sunday (sunday! Sunday!! SUNDAY!!)

Front and rear are the same on a stock driveshaft?

One has a grease fitting the other is solid. The subsequent advice was to go greaseless on both.

Go with the solid(no-zerk fittings)...stronger and less hassle...I have the Spicer part numbers at home...

I will go with the solid. I posted the part #s above - see if you get the same. Solid one is 5-795X.
