Could be a product of the level of boost being run or how frequently you drive and change them.

My understanding is the CR's like much higher boost.

At the time I had issues, I was tooling around at 18-19lbs. Like I said, they were OK until about 1000 miles were on them and then the sputtering and popping under boost started. After discussing the problem with Lou Czarnota, a plug change solved the issue and It's never been a problem with the R43TS's.

So my perspective....unless you need to try CR43TS's or some other plug due to measurable issues with R43TS's....then don't bother. The C stands for Commercial...and the Commercial use is for truck engines....I aint driving no truck.:D

Thanks for all the input guys! I really appreciate it. I will be ready to go to Autozone monday for a large order :D.

Thanks
ZNix

FWIW, Mobil 1 is a Champion Industries Filter...AKA CHAMP. I had the same issue with a Fram on a BBC on an engine dyno. I dont think that they are cheap as I have cut open a bunch of them, I think they filter too well and clog quickly. I also run R43TS plugs. I like them the best. As for the rear, dont forget the LSD Friction modifier when changing the fluid. I just use 80w90 regular gear oil but the friction modifier is a must with the posi rear.

Is there anything wrong with AC Delco Plug wires or fuel filters? I was going to order those because they are both 15$ cheaper from NOS4GN.com over Kirbans.. Now if they only had ZDDP, I would only have to buy from one place.

You can find ZDDP on evilbay cheaper than anywhere else. Sorry Dennis and Rich. As far as the wires I prefer to make my own but that's just me.

Make your own? I didn't realize you could.. Maybe I am more naive than I thought . Where do I get the stuff to do this? Or should I just buy the AC Delcos and be done?

You can make them Zack. Straight boot MSD wires and you have to cut them to fit and it's a little more expensive since you'r buying 8 wires instead of 6, but it allows you to fit them for the car. You can get them from Accel and several other companies.

I bought my delco wires from the dealership and the fit is not that great...wires are to long u have to set the passenger side so they don't touch downpipe

CR43TS are what people have been running for Years.

and you gap at .32 unless your running very high boost.

You can skip on the gasket and use RTV, non synthetic rear end fluid and you can bypass the additive unless you get a lot of chatter on turns.

Spark plug wires are a tough choice. There are so many different brands, sizes, high performance.. What is best for a stock car that plans to go alcohol in the future? Suggestions . If you could be more specific Charlie, like what size wires, where you get them would be very helpful if you can.

Thank you,
ZNix

You can get some custom wires for GNs, grey for 70-120

Or I got blue Taylors from Summit for $27 shipped.

Again...unless you have a valid and measureable reason to run something other than R43TS...then why bother?C
You driving a commercial truck?

I also drive more and harder miles than 98% of the folks on this board so if you want to ignore the experience I had with the CR's...then go have fun.

....agreed on the gap.....if youre running stock boost or close to stock then gap 0.32.
If you're over 18-20lbs...then gap at 0.28.

I've been running CRs since 1994, how much experience do you have

Guess you think its more the gnttype.org authors plus hundreds on here (fee free to try the search feature for cr43ts)

First...go back and re-read my posts...did I say anyone here or anywhere doesn't know what they're talking about?
Nope...what I said was...if you don't have have a measureable reason to run CR's...a commercial truck plug... then why bother?
Don't fix what aint broke....or..."keep it simple stupid"...
So don't type words into my post....you know from past experiences that I have a low threshold for the crap you like to start with people...especially after that little fit you pitched all over the board after LA Invasion 2010.

How much do you drive your car?
What numbers you putting down at the track and whats your street tune dialed into?
Are you driving 50+ miles a day with an 11 second tune and getting into tangles at WOT boost on nearly a daily basis?
If yes...then very good...you're driving more than me and might actually be a valid data point to offset me if you have measureable data to back your post mining input...just show me the data...any gain in running CR's...?

If no...then you might want to gleen a valid data point from me...I ran CR's after some one with good intentions told me to...at about 1000 miles I started popping under boost....called up Lou after checking the usual suspects...his first question...what plugs and what gap.
Changed the plugs after he told me to go back to R43TS...problems solved.

...and I'll put Lou's experience over the last 23 years on these cars over yours....but you sure do have an impressive ability to mine for posts and act all smart based on those posts...

I'd be willing to wager that in 4 years of owning my GN, I've put more miles than you have on yours since 94...lotsa learning comes with actual practical experience and driving...and with the way I drive, I'm a real world torture chamber.

Prior to that I built numerous first gen Camaro's including the 68 in my sig since 1978....if you want to go way back to the mid 70's...I worked with my brother and his builder (a guy named Terry Pfaff) on his little turbo'd Toyota Corrola that used to terrorize the streets of San Jose...

Prior to that I had the baddest newspaper delivery bike in town...I modded a 10 speed road bike to carry papers...I could cover a 98 paper route in a single load...I was a legend on the delivery staff of the San Jose Mercury News before all the illegal/uninsured car driving delivery peeps stole jobs from kids.

There's my resume...thanks for asking.

Spark plug choice is varied I see. But as long as it ends in R43TS and is gaped at .32, we are all set. Now give me a little guidance on the plug wires. Should I get some performance ones from a vendor on this board? Go with stock wires? Make my own? What do you guys use/think? I see you bought Taylor's. What was your experience with them?

Personally...I'm running Taylors.
But you'll find that there are various preferences here also ;)

I've run Magnacor and custom MSD ones from Russ Merrit. He's not doing them anymore. I've made Taylors for my old TA. It's not difficult to do if you take your time.

hello; meanchicken I'd like to see "the badest newspaper delievery bike" you have or had. In my area there is an asian guy who rides around on his 20" bicycle, high handle bars but he collects cans. He can stap more bags on that bike it's kinda amazing. He also uses a center stand when he loads it up.
I don't see him much as the town changed to a special collection containers and it's a pain for him to get to. Before we had open recyclable containers.

LOL:D
Not to digress from the thread, but it was a 10 speed road bike...I had a large metal handle bar basket on it and metal saddlebag baskets. I'd also wear the paper boy vest with it stuffed front and back. Fully loaded I carried 98 weekday papers, and the only day I did multiple runs was on Sundays.
I used a side kick stand but had to prop the bike against a street lamp to load it up. Then I'd load the vest bags. I could barely mount the bike when fully loaded. I had the benefit of a down hill run to help me get going, but those first 50-100 feet were so shakey that I'd skip the first 2 - 3 houses and save them for last.
Best thing about my service....once I had my form down, I hit my customers porches from the street with deadly accuracy:D ...just ask any porch cat who I took out of dream state with one of my shots:biggrin:

I didn't dump their paper into a water filled gutter or under their SUV from a speeding van like todays delivery peeps do.

OK...nuff about that...
