Hey everyone,

Just curious what everyone on this board prefers and why. What are the advantages to auto, and to manual? Why would you prefer one over the other. Maybe you would prefer auto for drag, and stick for street? Im debating between auto/manual, so all opinions will help me greatly. Thanks a bunch guys!

stick vs auto

Hmm...:)

It's like saying....Bud vs Heiniken, Ford vs Chevy, turbo vs nitrous. Which one is better you ask?

Hmm....These are the questions that will linger for generations to come. My opinion, just get a buick and forget about it.;)

Cale,

Let me put it to you this way...All *sports* cars should come with manual transmissions. Period.
I don't fully understand why Buick couldn't offer the turbo 6 with a standard trans. Look at other turbo cars: Supra, 300ZX, RX7, SVO, etc... They seem to work fine with a stick. Maybe it's because the Buick 6 is not a very "revvy" engine, therefore it cannot build boost back up between shifts. I dunno.
I've always been a fan of standard transmission. In fact, aside from my very first car, my Buick is the only car I've ever owned with an automatic. Sticks just make driving more fun. They're not the best in traffic, but I'll take it any day over an auto. Just my opinion.

just my opinion
auto's for drag - consistancy and less strain on drivetrain unless on transbrake

for the street....nothing beats a stick unless you live in ewa side with bumper to bumper traffic

if you recall an old hot rod mag....they installed a standard in a turbo buick ....but it was about half a sec slower (acceleration)than the auto....but im sure for all out top speed the 5 spd would win

Depends.

Auto transmissions don't live long at extended top speed runs, but usually are less maintainance in day to day driving. Manuals are a PITA during daily city traffic, but are alot of fun on the track. Personally, I've gooten too old to keep rowing the gears. Something to be said for stabbing the throttle and hauling butt without having to clutch, shift, etc...

Depends on the car IMO. My Jeep YJ has a stick. Wouldn't want it any other way. If I was in the market for a Z06 or a Porsche or Ferrari, etc., I get a stick. If I was in the market for a minivan or something, I'd get an automatic.

I have to agree with the others though...my Jeep and it's stick suck in traffic...and there's lots of it here in the NY/NJ metropolitan area.

Thanks for your opinions guys! Im not living in a area where traffic is 'too' bad. I was just wondering if my manual tranny will be able to handle the torque/hp. Im thinking, hp + stick + fwd = lots of torque steer. I wish I still had the buick! But I can't argue, because I was able to pick this thing up for dirty cheap, and so far, I've been using all junkyard parts! :) I guess that's the good thing about these dodges, nobody likes them, so there's lots of junked cheap cars available, ha ha (I even took some parts from a turbo caravan!) Oh well, when financial situations allow, I WILL buy another turbo buick for sure.
