stopping popup ads

I know I've asked this before but I couldn't find it in the search. I remember having to open up my messanger and close some stuff but after that things get hazy.

It depends what kinda ads you are getting. Are they web ads or messenger ads?

If it's web popups that you worry about, and they aren't coming from your computer itself, try firefox.

Its like Internet explorer but better. Don't worry, it doesn't uninstall explorer.

Also think about using adaware, and spybot to help clean out things that might cause popups.

What operating system do you have? If you have Win XP, download sp2.

If you have windows xp try spybot search & destroy & adaware from lavasoft. They are both free downloads. I used to get them all the time, now I get none.

These are all web ads and I am running adaware 6.0 it helps but doesn't get rid of everything.

I think this is what you're looking for...

In Windows 2000 and XP, go to the Control Panel, then to Administrative Tools, and then to Services. Highlight "Messenger" and click on "Stop." You must also set the "Startup Type" to "Disabled."
