Switching to a TH400. What cars were they in??

Looking to see what cars had the th400 tran. Im building a stage II motor and I dont thing my built 200 is going to do the trick. Is the bolt pattern for the Buick different than the GM? Thanks

Your gonna need a 400 with a BOP bolt pattern, Chevrolet bellhousings arent the same. BTW, they came in old big block Buicks and such. HTH

Look around hard and try to find a switch-pitch TH400...The converters have a high and low stall built into them, hence switch-pitch...A lot of the late 60s big Buicks(and maybe Olds had them as well) had them...They are high stall when you nail the gas pedal, but low stall when just cruising around...The best of both worlds...Post a thread in the trans forum asking where to get one...I imagine Bruce T may be able to help you out or know someone that could...

One other B.B. to check with is www.v8Buick.com ...Go to the "The Juice Box" in the Driveline and Chassis section and ask there...There is a guy there that builds them and the torque converters and will be able to help you out...

I am no expert on a switch pitch but do not think the converter will work well with a turbo Stage motor. Actually, their "low" pitch would not even be enough stall for a good running stock block turbo.

Whoops...maybe I should read closer to see the question...I do know that the low stall of the switch pitch on the aftermarket converters can be had in a bit higher stall range than the stock switch pitch converters...It couldn't hurt though to check into them to see if one could be built to cruise with low stall, rather than with a high stall all the time...

I haven't had any experience with the switch-pitch converters, nor has my dad, so I can't give any first-hand input there. But from what I've heard they leave alot to be desired...............
