Doing some switching here, and im sure a lot of you guys already have the same setup. Im looking to go kinda wide in the back without rubbage (275/60/15? 50/15?) and the front, probably 215 or 205s, but i get a little confused with the tire height. I want enough height so the fronts dont look to small, but will cover the height of the wheel well without rubbing on turns 60,65,70,75???? for height im not sure. I didnt want to go to skinny due to drivability at higher speeds on the street and around town, but wanted to maintain the Hot Rod look. I also going to get some Hoosier Quick Time Pros for the track and need some suggestions there as far as the 26x9 or 10 or?? im not sure. This is pretty much a daily driver right now, so start throwing out some suggestions.

thanks,

jojo

I kinda had my heart set on some 275 sticky tires in the rear. But the 215s arent too big opposed to the 205s??

thanks,

jojo

205 65s will be too short. I run a 205 75 and there about the same height as stock.

No rubbage at all with 75s?? 205s arent to skinny for my daily driver Scott?

tire size

I'm using 275/60/15 with a stock rim- had to add air bags and new springs and 1/4" spacer in the rear to make the tires work. Each car will be different, depending on condition and parts.

Using 235/60/15 on front no problem. Car does have a little ?? rake ( rear-end up ).
My 2 cent worth

thanks dad!! your back is rubbing because of the offset in the stock rim. That is why im going to a 3.5 offset with the draglite 90 series wheel. The stocker has more like 4.25 i think, so there is not a lot to play with there, and that is where the spacer is brought into play. Im thinking of going to either a 215 or a 205 in the front though for the ultimate hotrod look and just shy of the skinnies.

thanks,

jojo

on the street I use 215X65 on the front (7" rim) and 275X60 DR's or 28X11.5 ET Streets on the back 8" rim (4" BS on both)

Hey Woody are you holding any of that power you got there with those Drag Radials? (what kind?) Nitto BFG

thanks

jojo

With an 8" wheel go with 4" backspacing in back. 3.5" will probably need the lip to be rolled with a 28" tire (275/60).

I have 205/65's front and they are fine.

UNGN what do you mean the lip? the 275s wont go on there without a problem of rubbing with 3.5 backspace?

thanks,

jojo

uummm, those tires are street tires...I run 28X9 slicks at the track....and trust me, the DR's are sorta worthless and the ET Streets are semi-worthless (but better than radials):D

Well ive got to do something for the street, because my Nitto Radials are just not cutting it. I was just wondering if i will see an improvement for the street with Drag Radials. I plan on running slicks for the track only..... my next visit out.

thanks,

jojo

drag radials are a significant improvement over regular radials.....they just aren't quite up to the task of full boogie type stuff

Im running 15 x 6 in the front with 215 x65 x 15- perfect look and perfect fit, im also running 15 x 9 s in the rear w/ 4.5 " b.s. with 255 x60 x 15 and on my other 9" set with have some 28 x 9 slicks mounted soon. all on new prostar xp s. HTH

3.5" backspacing with an 8" rim puts the tire sidewall close to the wheel opening moulding. It will work but in hard cornering, the sidewall can rub on the moulding if the lip isn't rolled. This is obviously worse than rubbing the frame in hard cornering because the frame is relatively smooth and the wheel lip edge is relatively sharp.

A 4" backpacing with an 8" rim should keep the tire off the wheel well lip. If you go with 3.5" backspacing and roll the lip, you shouldn't have any problems, though.

IMHO,

I would run 295/50/15 in the rear and 225/60/15 up front. I run 295s in the rear with no rubbing, and I used to have the 225/60s up front with no problems. My current 235s up front fit well too.

I run 275/50/15 BFG DR in the back with 15x8 4"bs with no problems and 225/60/15 on 15x7 in front. I want to go to a skinnier front tire for the track. I don't wanna go to all out skinnies but want to see an improvement at the track if I do it. Any recommendations??

You will see more of an improvement going from 275/50's to 275/60's than you would going to full race skinnies up front.

I picked up 4 mph and .3 seconds going to the 60's over the 50's. With 3.5" welds and front runners I picked up .5 mph and about .05 seconds.

Your biggest bang for the buck is taller tires out back.
