symtoms of a blown sprag,anybody help with this?

Well I lost the ability to shift my car into drive an go,but if I manuel shift from first on thru all gears no problem,so did I lose the sprag?Trans shop wants 5hun to fix it if this is the case.

2nd place is 1st place loser!
 
i blew the rear sprag out of my trans at the track, and it wouldn't shift out of first gear.. in fact, it dragged so bad even in neutral that 2 people couldn't push the car by hand..
i really need to get that trans fixed and put back into the car- it's been blowed up since the summer of '05 and the junkyard Caprice trans that's in the car does not like boost at all..
 
Well,I drove it home from the track with no problems, even got to 15#boost.So this is what I was doing when it happen,I pulled into the burn out box power braked it got to 5# of boost then it felt like I shifted to netural,then the rpms came down an went back into gear tried it one more time,did it again.Now I have no drive but goes in all gears if manuel shifted.

Technically it isn't a sprag but a one way roller. If it doesn't hold, there is not first. If you manually shift to low, the low clutches come on and hold the planet from rotating. You shift to second and the clutches release when the band grabs so first is "over with" and then you can upshift to 3rd. If a lot of the little springs are collapsed or broken, the rollers can't hold properly and if the center race moves around enough, they all move out of the way off their little ramps and no holding power in OD, D, 2nd gears. Only time low clutches are applied is Low 1 and reverse.

Yep sprag and/or l/r clutch housing bad. Start the disassembly procedure.
