First off i'm a total newbie so bear with me. I haven't posted at all but i've been reading alot on this site.

Here's my question, My motor is apart but i have the chance to buy a ta45 p-trim turbo for $550, that only has 15 passes on it. This is my first turbo car and don't know how "big" this turbo is. i would eventually like to get into the 11's somewhere but don't know really what to expect with this car. I plan on porting the heads and installing a very mild cam while the motor is being redone, as well as the other necessary upgrades which i will figure out later. In reality i will not be building the motor untill at least winter, or maybe next summer but am wondering if the turbo is worth picking up while i have the opportunity?

The car does have pgraded injectors, maybe 44lbs/hr??...not to shure, i have the paperwork somewhere, how much power will these injectors support?.....

I forgot to add the guy said it has a precision housing on it???? What does this mean? He said garrett did the turbo for him

Basically speaking, that turbo should be good enough to take you into the 10's with the right combination of components to back it up.

The 44# injectors wont be enough for that turbo though!!! If you do get the 45, look at getting a good set of 60# injectors to feed all that new are with that turbo.

Figure 3400 stall too. I have the Precision version of the 45(63E). My car spools as fast or faster than a stocker.

also.......

you will need more stall in the converter, as much as 3600 maybe.
I made over 600 Rear wheel Horse power with T45a, q trim,
run a 3600 stall, and cannot keep tries from spinning! ( maybe lead foot has something to do with it) very very responsive,
I use 75 lb inj, walbro 340 , hot wire, front mount, stock intake and throttle body.

Build the engine around running 23-28 psi with that turbo. Thats where it will really run hard on a 231 ci.

Unless I missed it.... he is asking about a TA45 P trim....... not a TE45-A....

In order to tell you the potential of that turbo.... we need to clarify exactly what it is.... I have never heard of a TA45 P trim..... Can you confirm?

Got pics?

a ta-45 p trim is the same as a ta-63

I thought it might be similar... thought if he sent some pics.... at least we could rule out TA vs TE...

The old TE45..... (non A) .... it had a 63mm wheel I think.... wonder if there really is a TA45 and a TA45A.... what I mean is a stock appearing version of the 63mm wheel and the 66 mm wheel...

Paging Pactrick........ :-)

thanks for the quick replies guys. I don't have pics, and haven't seen the turbo yet he forgot to bring it this week (he's my tool guy at work). So i'll find out more next week and try to post some pics if i remember my camera next thursday.

Yep they do.

Precision Turbo & Engine - Turbocharger, Intercooler, Fuel Injector, Performance Parts & more!

TA-63 = 670 flywheel hp rating, 3200 minimum stall requirement, 63mm compressor wheel diameter with a 2.476" inducer and a 3.310" exducer, 56 trim, TA series compressor cover with a 3" inlet, 2 bolt billet aluminum 2" inlet bell, 360* thrust bearing, PTE .63 A/R turbine housing, T04 series turbine wheel with a 2.920" inducer, 2.542" exducer, 76 P-trim.

TA-64 = 680 flywheel hp rating, 3300 minimum stall requirement, 66mm compressor wheel diameter with a 2.580" inducer and a 3.580" exducer, 52 trim. TA series compressor cover with a 3" inlet, 2 bolt billet aluminum 2" inlet bell, 360* thrust bearing, PTE .63 A/R turbine housing, T04 series turbine wheel with a 2.920" inducer, 2.542" exducer, 76 P-trim.
Both are available with the optional .85 A/R turbine housing and both have the exact same rotating assembly as the T63E and T64E. The only difference between the TA version and the E version is the backing plate and compressor cover.

TA = stock appearing compressor cover,

TE = TO4E series .60 A/R PTE casted 3" integral inlet, 2" discharge compressor cover.

I'm pretty sure Limit has made the TA-45 and the TA-45a in the past.

Hope this helps.

well i have the turbo and it definately looks like a te series. How do i tell exactly what turbo this is?? it does have a precision turbine housing on it but i can't read the a/r number, it could be a .60 or .63 or .68, i can't make it out. the compressor housing definately says a/r .60. There's also a thb3-51 on the turbine housing.

I'm pretty sure Precision only make their housing in .63 or .85

THB3 is a .63 housing. THB5 is a .85 housing. The number after the dash is the trim of the turbine.
