Bison, can you compare a Limit TE45a, Turbonetics 66 (or cpt66) and a Precision 6665? I would think the TE45a with a Garrett .63 housing would spool better than the Precision 6665 and cpt66 journal. The cpt66 can be bb, can the others also have bb? How about a ported shroud? I know they are "old school" but seem to still have the right stuff for a mid 10sec TB. Thanks.

They could all be had in any of the configurations you stated. Ball bearing, journal, and various covers. Ported shroud could be used but that compressor isnt surge prone on these engines. The Garrett .63 journal will spool fastest but is not ideal if looking for the most you can get out of one. The 65 ex will have less backpressure than the old 76 but will need a little more converter. Fwiw Precision sold the 6676 as a t64e for a long time. Garrett 66 comp wheel with a large shaft 76 p trim. Same as the te45a that Limit sells. You need a good converter wIth any of them

I believe the winningest car in THS runs a TE45a, I'm sure there are others running 66mm turbos in THS and running strong. Any 66mm turbo should be good for faster than mid 10's with enough fuel. My stroker with a 45a.63 60 fts 1.55-1.60 with just 0-2 psi launches off the foot brake with a PTS 9/11 3000 stall lockup converter, yeah it spools fast!

It would be going on a .30 over forged shortblock, ported iron heads with larger intake valves, ported intake, 214/212 roller, roller rockers, TA headers, pslic, 93/alky and supporting mods. A 3200 or 3400 stall 9/11 will be used, at least for now. What configuration would best for the 10.4-6 range? Not afraid to throw 28psi at it. Good to hear surging is not a factor.
TurboTNZ06, is that with the 9/11 locked?

Garrett or Precision .63?

pronto, the .63 tnetics ex housing is comparable to the garrett.63 in spool time and size, they are much smaller than the pte .63.i can't see either of the turbo's without a 9 inch converter.

Building a new short block Pronto? Sounds like its going to be a fun car.

I took my manual boost controller off because of boost spike in first gear, sometimes 25+lbs spike, last weekend with my 45A/Garrett 63, I went 10.5 with 21 lbs 1st, 20 lbs 2nd, 18-19 lbs 3rd. I am not sure if the controller spring/ceramic ball is tired (5 years old) but I noticed very little if any spooling differences with just the heavy duty internal wastegate leaving off the footbrake.

What were you running for a converter for those times?

Lets try to stay on topic...

Supposed...What are you seeing at 0-1 psi? Are you happy with it?

According to the XFI 3500 is my 0 boost number while cruising around the neighborhood. Street manners it is excellent, a friend has a PTC 4000 that he ran 10.0 with that I might try just to see the difference but I am lazy and doubt that it will happen any time soon.

krom, what brand is the converter? Is it a lock up?

we ran a 66 Turbonetics .. worked great.. easy easy easy 10 sec turbo. :p

What did you like for a converter with that? I know your a fan of Pats and 9/11s.

we always had a 9/11 in the car . BUT never locked it up with the 66.. NO billet parts in it at that time. Went 10.10 @ 132+ from what I remember. Damm that was 5 years ago !!! lots of new turbo and converter stuff out there today.
