Te45a wheel questions

Are the wheels on a te45a turbo 66 compressor and 65 turbine? My other question is when to upgrade to a .85 or .82 housing. I'm looking to go very low 10s to high 9s. My 45a has .63 precision now.

You will hurt your low end response if you change to a larger housing.

We prefer to use the Garrett stock turbo exhaust housing on a TE-45A as it is much quicker spooling than the Precision housings.

Races are won in competition by E.T., not MPH!

Nick I have a 45A/Garrett here on a E-85 car.
Ported Ions, 3200 stall converter.
The car had a PTE 6262 on it. prior to the 45.
The 45 does hit harder but where do you think the Garrett becomes a choke point, 10.50's 10.0's?

A friend with a Limited with a nice build was running mid-10's with his TE45A and sucked a wire into the wheel and needed to be redone. I had a Garrett housing that Limit installed in place of the Precision.

At 26 psi he ran a 10.2 which equates to a 9.90 close to sea level as compared to our elevation here in the desert.

My personal limit with a 45A would be 10.0, as I have had enough carnage over the years so I do not push any build w/o a margin of safety. I want the performance build, mine or the customer's, to perform as desired and stay together!

Why would you put Garrett .63 which is a 450-500hp exhaust housing on a turbo which is rated over 700hp and able to swallow 73#/min? Sure it might work but there should be a particular match between compressor wheel and the A/R.
.85 would be a much better match...if it spools really slow, turbo is too big. Don't mask the problem by sticking a Honda like exhaust housing on it.

For a lot of the Buicks in my area the Garrett 63 is all they need. How often are some looking to get 600-700 RWHP out of this "old school unit?" When the TE45a was "new" I bet a ton them were too big for the combo they were put on, but the pull at WOT was exactly what they wanted. They didnt have 375-575 factory cars to worry about at stop lights so the super quick spool wasn't as important.

Now, after many owners and upgrades over the years, most TR's I come across have a converter, cam upgrade, and at least cleaned up irons. Perfect for this turbo which can be found on here for $450-550. The Garrett housing on a 45a will rival the 6262.

I just took my spare 6262 off an E-85 T-Type and put on the owners TE-45a(Garrett .63) on. Car feel the same. There is now way I would let him by a 6262 to replace this.

the pte.85 housing is overkill for a 45a and in most cases further reduces turbo response.

when you want to move the power range up in rpm,soften the initial hit on the tire,or lower backpressure.

.63 housings can fly proven by many.its also pretty easy to swap ex housings and test,inmo its the best way.

Garrett is a .63....The precision .63 is actually closer to .70/71 with the 65 turbine. There is a difference.. The precision would be the smallest I would go with a 66 compressor wheel

Garrett .63 could be put on 55-58mm turbo...Some upgrade their 44/49 with a pte .63 over the Garrett to pick up a few mph up top. You are masking the problem for spool putting a true .63 with a 6665.
Doesn't make any sense to me but...

Lol, why don't you buy a Pte 67 turbo and stick Garrett .63 on it.....let me know how it pulls up top.

That must be fun trying to control boost with small as hell exhaust housing on a 66,67mm...guys wonder why they have to port the fuckk out the the wg hole to control boost.

not trying to jump on you but this statement of hp rating that you give is very light considering how fast guys have gone.i have seen much more power than that back when I used the garret.63 myself.swapping ex housing is also an effective way to dial in a combo off track and should not be overlooked.i do agree about the pte.63 being larger than the garret.

Conflict works.lol. Post some mustang dyno numbers. What 510-515 hp....maybe, with a Garrett .63

A 60-1 (59mm comp wheel) will choke off in Garrett .63 if its turned up. That's a 59mm wheel!!! So why would I match a 6665 to it?
