Does anyone have any idea what happen to Chuck at Tech Transmissions in Nashville, GA:confused:. I got a tranny from a guy that had been built by Chuck. This tranny has a killer, but now needs rebuilding:eek:

tech trans

Chuck folded back in the 90's after stiffing me on tranny build( I bought a kit with red clutches and got stock clutches). Chip Blake opened it back up and made good on the tranny. He moved it to Valdosta in 98 or 99 and closed up shop and went to work one of the big shops in Valdosta. He prob still builds them on side. I go right by Chip's house when going to my in laws. I think his phone is listed under Emil Chip Blake in Lakeland,GA. If not call the GSCA in Valdosta 229-244-0577 and has built several trannys for "club" members and more than likely have his contact #.

..

Stay away from Chuck.

I can/t help but get a chuckle out of this post. If this is the same guy, and I believe it is. Lassiter of the CLUB was praising this guy as the next best thing to sliced bread as he gave Lassiter a free rebuild in exchange for print in the CLUB mag. I was anxious to meet him @ BG as I was having trans trouble @ that time. He brought a u-haul full of 2004R trans with him. I didn/t have any dealings with him but did discuss trans with him and drew my own conclusion. He sold all him trans early that week and all had failed by the end of the week. He was in a hurry to escape by Sat.

Yep

That sounds like him! I bought a level ten kit with red clutches and when Chip went in it for me it had stock clutches in it. He made it good but I paid him extra to put blues and really firm up the shifts. In fact he did another guys GN at the same time and his wouldn't make it more than 20 miles each time. He took it elsewhere. I think chuck is in or around Valdosta. Stay away, far away!
I have seen several GSCA cars there when the doors were still open as well as Lassiters GS.

I must of have been one of the LUCKY ONES  . I bought the drive train from a 87 GN. The tranny is still a killer, but you can tell it needs a rebuild. I still chirps 1-2, it used to chirp 2-3, and 4 has gotten a lil soft. A lot of guys here in Birmingham, drove down to Nashville and had him build their tranny's. I can only recall one that drop turdz.

BTW, Leo, how is your tranny (I believe you are using a CZ valve body in your 85) holding up.

Chuck

Ouch

That's why I was skeptical to let any local guys touch mine and elected to do it myself seeing as I couldn't afford a nice one from the big boys.

Now that I have a decent pump in it, I'm liking it. :)

....two more to build..

Well, from what I was told...
At some point, Chuck was a GOOD TRANNY builder. Suddenly his builds became turdz:mad: I must have one the GOOD builds. I know 3 guys with his tranny's and they are still good:eek:
I have built a few T350's, but I don't think I would bother going in this one.:(

Chuck built three of our trans in the same week. One had blue clutches and rattled the dash on every shift at very light throttle,it lasted. Mine and the other one were supposed to have red clutches and shift between stock and harsh. Mine lasted 3 weeks before flaring on all shifts at light throttle. The other on tried to make it home 25 miles away in Tifton 3 times and it never made it. If he thinks he can get away with it he will stick you.
Rumor has it he stuck a couple of vendors for a turbo and a stainless exhaust just before he folded.

This sounds like the tranny I got that is need of a rebuild. I rode in the 87 GN it came out of after the build in 95 and I can tell you it was brutal on the shifts. It chirped 1-2 so hard, it left 20 ft marks  . It also chirp 2-3 and also left slightly smaller marks:D . The shift to overdrive was like being rear ended:eek:

As far as racing, the tranny was a killer. The other side is that light throttle, (even reverse) resulted in SLEDGEHAMMER shifts  This made grocery getting with the old lady, a trip to the Chiropractor (QUACK).
