Th400 column shift

So i swapped my th400 in, my car is a column shift car. The factory linkage seems to fit. Not sure what its called but the piece the th400 came eith where the linkage rod goes into with the pin, seems to fit for me, but not sure what others have done.

Just curious what people have done with column shift cars, that still use the column shift.

I believe all the GNs have the column shift linkage to retain the neutral safety switch . Anyway I wanted to retain that so I cut off the piece and welded it to the column linkage .

Did you use the 2004r shifter bracket or is the one youre using from your th400?

I also see you are using an after market floor shifter?

Yes i have a B&M shifter . It is floor mounted but as I state before it is still hooked up to the column shifter for the reverse lights and what ever else is still
Operated off the coulum shift . Here is a pic of the shifter . It is a TH400 BTW that is Reverse manual valve body with trans brake

Just out of curiosity, why not lose the column portion and opt for a micro switch on your shifter for the reverse lights? That's what I did. No need for that anymore imo.

I've been wondering about this as I'd like to do the same. Actually looked at various GM console shift switches to install on the shifter assembly but haven't gone much further. It would be nice to also have the ECM P/N input and a P/N safety switch too.

The column setup provides three features: a P/N input to the ECM (mostly for idle control), reverse lights switch, and a mechanical interlock on the ignition switch. The mechanical interlock prevents the ignition key from turning to the crank position unless the shifter is in park or neutral.
