Pete did sell his ultra rare non ac Regal set up today. A good array of used turbo regal parts was in the vendor area. Still very very few turbo regals for sale. I have never seen such a low number for sale at the GS Nats.

In concours judging for turbo Regals maybe 3 or 4 total this year one being a supe rmint 1986 GN low optioned example rest all Turbo models and I think one Limited version.

Concours GS section had more entires....

Several GNXs in attendance. As of yet I have not spotted any unusual conversions with a turbo engine powerplant. As a vendor, I was not able to actually walk around much.

Powermaster problems were a major issue as owners were hunting down brake bowls new and used.

I won't be posting tomorrow nite.....so will check Sunday nite late to see if the trivia question has been answered correctly....

Here's the Question and all responses so far

I got tired of trying to look back at what was guessed? Here are the guesses that are NOT Correct:

olds jetfire
1984 PLYMOUTH Colt ( not the Dodge Colt )
1978 Saab 99 turbo
1989 grand prix turbo
199o grand prix ste turbo 4dr
1991 gmc syclone
1980 Mercury Zephyr Z7
89 turbo t/a
Pontiac tried a Turbo T/A in '80 - '81 with the 301 powerhouse
Corvair
1984 ford escort gt turbo
the Yugo had a turbo for a year, i think
1987 Buick GNX
1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati
2003 Mazdaspeed Protegé
1986 Shelby (Dodge) Omni GLHS..
1984 288 GTO Ferarri
BMW 2002 Turbo 1973
1980 turbo monte carlo
'87-'88 Chevy Sprint Turbo
'85-'86 Mercury Cougar XR-7
'80-'81 Monte Carlo Turbo
'84-'85 Ford EXP Turbo Coupe
'84-'85 Lincoln Mark VII turbo-diesel
1990 Lotus Carlton
1980 Ford SVO McLaren Mustang Turbo

And here is the question with clues:

Name the one car model, that I am referring to that only offered a turbo option for exactly one year.
it is a factory car from the factory
Made less than 1,200
was not made in germany-france-italy
before 1995
after 1975
One new minor clue car I am thinking of was marketed in the USA:smile:

Todays Guess

Engines:

1.0 L Suzuki I3
1.0 L Suzuki Turbo I3

I am back up to speed on my MAC computer great to be home...

I elect rich54 to keep the running tally on wrong answers.....which continues to grow as none since the previous page is correct either.

This is somewhat amusing from my standpoint....

The Riv answer don't fly as they made that 2 years....

Again I like to thank everyone that has sent me PM messages...

I hesitate giving more clues .....I will up the prize value to $125...open to anyone that reads this thread...first answer that agrees 100% with mine. I have a large article backing up my answer.

You only get one answer per post!!! You can post as often as you think up something.

I may give another clue early this week....

Prize will include the 100 Year GM book....appears GM may have trouble reachig the second century in existance.

Stumping the great minds on a turbo question.....

I know much has been posted about GS Nats in a pervious thread but I can offer some other insight based on what I saw etc.

It appears the great GM slow down has hit the Corvette plant as well. I am told the Corvette plant is shut down several times each month now as well and inventory stands at 200 or more days. Not something that is probably advertised. I heard this from several sources.

Richard Clark ended up working on 6 powermaster units for various turbo owners most if not all of them had problems during their drive to the GS Nats. Fortunately Richard comes prepared and has the knowledge to fix them.

I saw very very few Turbo Regals for sale compared to previous years. Over the years I have purchased probably 5 or 6 from the event.

Few notes of interest.....did see one GN that in place of the factory GN fender badges had instead installed a set of the Buick Motorsport decals we sell in their place. It really looked slick on the car.

The weather played havoc late Friday afternoon and from what I understand killed (cancelled) the racing portion on Saturday afternoon. I left around 1 pm on Saturday.

That area never seem to get a gentle shower, its always a torrential downpour that clears up and returns 1-2 hours later with another dumping.

Next year is the big one 30 years...those that like to plan ahead....get your motel rooms early and you can get the first floor. Something I always want.....had a friend get caught in a fire in a motel once and was lucky to get out....

I did check some trunk ID labels at the GS Nats, and nothing hits either the 50 codes or the 100 codes.. Those of us (me included) that have like 52-51 are part of a rare group. Same goes for the high number.

Pete did sell that non AC set up the next morning. It would be neat to see that in a car. Twin pull vents under the steering column and no AC indication on the control panel is really neat to see. Probably have to hit junk yards in Alaska or Minnesota to find another one.

I got the next trivia question pretty much worked out once this one gets the correct answer.

On the above Turbo-T with the astroroof that is very unusual to have such a low number of options being someone sprung for the nearly one grand factory astroroof roof.

You would be even more lucky if the original owner unless it was you retained the manila style envelope with the hand crank and directions for operating the astroroof roof should the switch fail. That is the reason for the inspection plug that is next to the switch in the headliner.

Be curious if any one reading these posts have a Turbo Regal without a tilt column? Over the years I think I have had maybe 3 or 4 out of 317......

kirbanperformance.com

denniskirban@yahoo.com

Owned a few no two probably ever alike as quality varied from car to car as
did performance.
My "T" came with no tilt collum but i put one in it. I also put a rear glass with defroster. Car came with no rear defrost glass.

The 1987 Shelby Charger

was a modified 1980s Dodge Charger. Shelby bought the last 1,000 and replaced the fuel intake and engine management system. Shelby also changed the struts/shocks with Koni adjustable units, wheels from his own wheel company (Centurion 2's), and high performance Goodyear Eagle GT tires. His modifications prompted the federal government to declare the car a Shelby model. The only color was black and they were all equipped the same. A special sticker on the speedometer upped the readout to 135 mph (217 km/h). A special numbered Shelby Automotive badge went in place of the normal Charger badge. The cost of this special Charger was US$12,995. The trademark Dodge appears nowhere on the car, Shelby Chargers were built at Chrysler Belvidere Illinois assembly plant.

1984 Mustang GT350 20th Anniversary w/ 2.3 liter Turbo 4
Hatchback = 362
Convertible = 104

The contest continues to draaag on...the shelby charger, 1984 Mustang GT 350 and Vector are 3 more wrong answers 54rich to add to the growing list.....

Wow.... may have hit the home run on this little goodie.....if no one hits it later this week I will up the prize value again.

Here is another small clue:

One of the options for this car was a black out kit which would be similar to what we have in our Turbo Buicks.

The clock is still ticking....on this contest.

good luck

If you are reading this thread and take time to post a photo of your trunk ID label blocking out your last several digits of your VIN #.....we can provide much of the info listed in your series of codes.

Getting back to the main topic we have covered seats, radios etc....that where available.

The trunk ID code for the optional power trunk release was A90. For 1984-85-86 it was a $40 option in 1987 it jumped to a $50 option.

This is probably one of the easiest options to install, and also one that most owners would use a lot. To me personally it seems strange GM mounted the push button for this on a small bracket that was mounted on the upper lip inside the glove box. By strange, I mean it is a long reach for a driver to operate it. Many cars today at least 3 that I own have it either on the dash by the driver or on the drives door panel.

Option is very easy to install, it is secured by one self taping style bolt that simply holds the trigger unit to the back of the latch assembly on your trunk lid. The wire harness runs down the drivers side trunk hinge following the route your trunk lite uses.

After you attach it to the one terminal on the release button the other side needs to go to the fuse box to a "hot" terminal that is hot when the car is off so no one accidentally pushes the release button while the car is running.

It makes more sense to me to mount the release button somewhere handy for the driver along the button lip area to the left or rite of the steering column.

This is one option that is pretty much the same for several years and can be found in many different G body models in a junk yard. You will find probably 95% of them will function perfectly. I am sure gbodyparts.com has them available and once in awhile we have them for sale as well.

Speaking about your trunk lid, here is another tip: With your trunk lid fully closed, see if you can still depress it slightly. If you can, open it again locate the small rubber bumpers in each of the back corners. Spin each of them 1-2 turns outward, reshut your trunk lid and depress it see if you still can move it downward.

If not, it is now probably adjusted and you have removed one more rattle from your Turbo Regal.

Another tip: if your car has a rear spoiler, over a period of time this traps alot of dirt.....trapped dirt holds moisture, moisture leads to rust and rust leads to holes.
Same holds true for that thin trim molding across the bottom lip. (GTOs had the same issues) Whenever possible blast that area with a high pressure water hose and you will see the dirt come out.

This holds true for owners of the Limited models with that wide stainless trim on them.

Got any questions/comments post them and I will do my best to answer them unless it concerns the trivia question!

Was it a '89 Caravan? A turbo Dodge guy I know had one at one time and it also had black trim.
