Thanks guys, I hope to have the heads on this coming weekend. Champion has been really slow in shipping the heads and Richard decided to give me a set of his new GN1 heads to get me going while the others ship.

Here's a picture from last nights session.

I bought the Felpro 1000s before I decided to go the "big" route, so I hadn't really though much about head gaskets and figured I'd use what I bought. I guess I was wrong on this and need to order some different gaskets.

Thanks for the help guys!

the 1026's have a copper fire ring, and were designed for the stage 2 engines.

The copper ring is supposed to prevent 'brinelling' of the aluminum head.

But, for our application, with few head bolts and lots of boost, the 1000's might be a better bet.

If it were my engine, I would probably go with cometics or RJC style gaskets.

just my .02

Right-o on the 1000's. For aluminum heads, I was told to use the 1026 w/the copper fire ring...

Thanks Dave. I couldn't remember the part number. You're right on the 1026 gaskets. Either that or like was posted, use cometics. I think they have a specific gasket for aluminum heads as well.

Thanks for the input Bob. BTW, it was great seeing you the other day. Next time try not to bring tornados, heavy rain, hail and wind when you show up.:D

Seems like there's quite a few opinions on the topic of head gaskets with aluminum heads.

LOL!
There are opinions on everything!
Do a search for head retorque.

well i just learned something......... That there is a different set of cometic gaskets for alum heads?

Eric Use the gaskets you already have. Alum heads have been bolted on using stock graphite gaskets for yr with no issues, The dark blue felpro 1000's will work just as good.

And I'm of the opinion that anything Bob, Jerry, or Charlie says trumps anything that UncleDave says. :D

(And btw, I'm envious of anyone who has access to the awesome turbocharged resource known as Richard Clark!)

It's definitely one of those big WOW moments in life when you find one of the big resources in the country is only a 25 minute drive away. I didn't know him at the time I bought my car, so it was a total shock for me. I had people in the past tell me they heard about a guy with a massive GN collection, but this was beyond my dreams.

Tesla (or any electric cars), Politics (although he'll bring it up regardless), 00 gauge alternator wires, original GN oil filters (It's like porn to him), duplication vs. replication and when he's going to give me those 3 NOS Hot Air hood pads.

More progress pictures. The transmission is complete and the heads are on.

Looking good! Hopefully it's in the car when everyone arrives for the event. I would recommend updating the XFI to 2.0 before you even start tuning.
