Anyone have any tips on racing 1/4 mile with street tires. Running Eagle GT+4 tires. I'm used to racing, but I've only run slicks. Going to a street drag night in Brainerd, and can't run slicks, DOT only, and I don't have any drag radials.

Looking for launch ideas, tire pressure, heat or no heat, launch from idle, or spool it up?

Thanks.

Definitely would like to know this too. No money for slicks, but would love to race regardless of outcome.

You cant without any reliability, consistency, or regard for safety. Street tires....minds well be racing in snow with these cars.

Quick burn out to clean the tires off. Heat will kill traction on a normal street tire. Air them down a little.. Maybe 20PSI? Launch off idle, and roll into it until you think you can get some traction.. It's not hard to run a decent number on street tires, but don't expect to set the world on fire or pull the tires on them..

Disconnect the rod on the waste gate!

Lol, I tried street tires one time because the track offocials were telling me I was to fast w/o a roll bar.

It was like driving on ice, every time the boost came up past 10 pounds the tires went up in smoke! I had better traction on the street! 18x9 275/40zr may be part of the problem?

I am interested to hear solutions also.

10lbs? how much flow did you have? I can get my car to 18 lbs and unless im turning my tires grip.

What size tire are you running? On a fairly stock combo I pull some 1.8 sixty foots on some Kelly charger 275x60x15s. Heat em up just a little let some air out and ease into the throttle.

I was running a 6265 Dbb, it had a bit of lag with my combo. Once it hit 10 pounds it was like hitting NOS to 26 pounds! With drag radials it had 1.54 60'
I have changed to a smaller turbo that is more street friendly, spools quick with almost zero lag. With the new combo I am able to launch at 0 and get 1.70 60' with DRs and it runs 0.15 slower than the track limits for a roll bar.

Disconnecting the rod on the waste gate? ......... I was making a joke! ....... But it might be the only way to get good traction with street tires !!! LOL

Someone is going to say "I smoked that GN at the track with my v-tec."
Get some good tires and put the power to the ground.

With a regular street tire (not a drag radial) I would run 35 psi in the tire. Do a very small burnout - as soon as you see smoke you are good. You aren't going to gain anything with 10 psi air in regular tire except it might be scary to drive on. If you have a stall in the car it's very hard to launch without major spinning. When my car still had the stock converter, stock/ported turbo, and original Goodyear Eagle GT's I did run some 12.6s. I'd brake torque the car to around 1500 to 1800 rpm on the line and hit it. My car would hook up pretty good. Once I put the 2800 stall in the car with regular street tires I could never get it to hook.

Most street tires wont get sticky but do a test burnout and see i had a set of kellys that turned to glue when you heated them up....For everyone else keep them fully inflated drive thru but past the water and give them a quick clean off ....youll have to experiment and drive your car dont get caught up in the moment and nail the throttle......Ease into the throttle instead of brake boosting or brake boost to 0 psi but turn the boost down...run your boost controller into your interior(in the console) so you can adjust on the fly ease the boost in on the top end charge.....My buddy went 12.60 on kelly springfields ....

Go AROUND the water pit! Do a small burnout... just to spin the crap off the tires. Don't even need smoke IMHO. I ran tires a little low, like 32#. Stage at the tree to about 3 PSI. (Might need to experiment with the boost you can leave the line with...without incinerating the tires) Let off brake when last yellow comes on. Hang on!

Thanks guys. I'm going to take it to the track, so if I crash or die you guys have the right to say I told you so. Been racing plenty, so I know the feel of a car in control, and one starting to lose it. I also don't plan to go balls, just want to get to the track and do some runs.

Where is the best place to get a set of ET Drag Radials? Was looking at the 255 15.

Right now my GT+4 tires are 245 60 15.

Pepboys speed shop. Don't laugh. Usually in stock.

I personally think they should have a street tire class no drag radials. Just to see and level the grounds a little. Look what they are doing on a 9in and 10.5 drag radials. Just to see what can be done. Crazy but could be cool to.
