a place here in town has a chassis dyno.i cant decide if its worth doing.i thought ive seen on here where people dont recomend it.i dont wont to tune on it. i just see what im pushing.thanks for your imput

As long as you are comfortable with the car's current state of tune, I wouldn't be too scared of having it dyno'ed just to see where you are at. You probably have no idea how much you are laying down at the wheels, so at least this gives you a fair idea. You don't always just have to use a dyno to make multiple runs to tune. The first time I took mine to see where I was, I was nervous letting the operator run the car, but it ended up being fine. If you are just seeing where you are at, I wouldn't go more than three pulls. Just my humble opinion.

I use dynos all the time for tuning. Personally, I wouldn't bother putting the car on it just to get a hp number. I've seen too many variables from one dyno/operator to another.

im happy with the tune. i just want to see some numbers.

it would still be nice to say this is what it did on the dyno.not this is what i think and people like at me like im full of $hit

I see where you are coming from. Cal makes a good point in that if you are tuning a car, you'd want to be very consistent by using the same dyno/operator every time since there really ARE so many variables. I still say, if you just want a number, do it. :)

ive seen some dyno pulls on youtube some shift while there doing there pull.is that right?

I have seen over 80hp variance from one dyno to the next with the same car. That's another reason why I always make a baseline pull on the car BEFORE I tune it. I've tuned on cars that have made a bunch of hp on another dyno, then it makes less on the one I'm tuning on but runs much faster at the track.
I never worry about the actual number, just that it leaves with more than it started with
If the dyno operator is a newbie, the 200-R4 can be tricky to stop from downshifting, but still reach max boost (and peak torque) by the end of the pull.

it looks like you do a lot of dyno tuning so you can just give me your best professional opinion what my car makes and save me some $$$

LOL! I apologize if I came across the wrong way ;) If you want the number, go for it! I just wouldn't get too wrapped up in the actual number dyno says. Because these motors make so much torque, you will probably be able to outrun a Supra making a 100hp more :p

no you come off as a person that knows what there talking about.as so many people on here do.thats why people like me come here.

Take it to the track then and see what is MPH's. MPH and weight of ur car is invariable. Dyno's are tuning tools, not HP determiners.

I would guarentee that ur car would show more HP goin down the track then on a dyno. You would probably be disappointed if u took it to the dyno and it don't mean chit.

I put my car on the dyno just to make sure everything works prior going to the track. Wasn't really concerned about putting down the number at the time. Needed to make sure the trans worked, fuel delivery was working properly, etc, etc.

I agree with Brett sometimes our cars don't dyno with big numbers amd they end up running 10s

the clostest track is only 1/8 mile.i do use my g-tech on the street though.

He's right, I have seen some sad faces after seeing the dyno results. I go once a year for fun when the locals get together. Low boost and timing. I go to the track for the MPH. That tells me what's:D going on!

400 RWHP.

Lock the converter in 3rd and roll up slowly to about 5400 RPM if you go to prove it.

Assuming 21* timing or so in 3rd.

It's fun and easy, and mine was accurate to what it ran. :)

I think we all long for that big dyno number to make us feel good. But TR's are different animals then other cars imo and just don't shine at the dyno.

If you look at the 1/4 miles times that some members run and calculate what the HP is from that run it's usually a 100 or so HP difference then what their car made at the dyno.

You can make a 1/8 mile pass and calculate ur HP as well. MPH/Weight. There are numerous formulas you can pull up on the net.

It is what it is and no matter what someone says their "Can" do it don't mean chit till they go to the track. The track is not misleading, dyno's can be. Great tuning aids tho like Billy T said as far as fuel, trans, etc... but not accurate HP calculators.

Does a dyno create correct resistance in order to cause load on the turbo? Turbos need "load" on them to create boost right? Like they spool none in neutral just revving the motor, so would the dyno re-create real world weight and motion and other stuff? Just guessing. I've never went to a dyno, but I like the idea of going down the 1/4 better. JMO.
