What modifications must be made to install a 212/212 roller cam in a stock block stock front cover engine

Take a look at TA Performance, their roller setup uses a retention plate (drill and tap 2 holes in block). The cam no longer has to push against the front cover.

The Danny Bee thrust plate will only work on billet roller cams with the odd-fire cam nose. The ductile roller cams use a modified thrust button with shims to control end play. Buy a kit from FT or DLS and follow their instructions. Not too hard.

No mods, just a roller button with shims like stated above...not a big deal, you just have to put the timing cover on a few times to get it right.

not trying to hijack the thread but couldn't an austempered/ductile roller cam be converted to use the billet type retention plate plate so that you wouldn't have to shim it? just wondering....

You would end up cutting the drive gear and fuel pump eccentric off the nose of the cam. I don't think there is enough metal there to machine it for the oddfire setup.

No. The billet rollers use a multiple piece nose/gear assembly. They look like the old odd fire cams. The austemper cams have the integeral distributor (cam sensor) drive cast directly into them. No workie.
