i will go with Hoosier Quick Times, or some gator backs

QTPs are no better - BTDT. With any of these 'street' drag tires you are making a trade-off between all-weather performance and dry-weather traction. If you need a daily driver tire then you need a 'real' street radial. The Skaterback is a real street tire but they don't perform too well in the wet either (hence the name).

The damage to your car is light- it could have been a lot worse. Still sucks, I know, but you have your health and the car isn't too banged up.

Good luck with it.

Not trying to be anal about it, but, these are the regular Quick Times. You are absolutely correct about the Quick Time Pros tho. They are the same as the ET Street bias plys, being just slicks with grooves and a DOT number and would also be horrible in the rain or on a damp street.

This tire is the tire I was referring too. Hoosier Quick Time.

I ran this tire sized 275/60/15 through many a rain storm back in MS on stock T wheels with absolutely no problems. My daily driver tire on my old Limited was this same style tire 295/50/15 Hoosier Quick Time on a 15x8 Draglite. They hooked pretty good at the track, and air them back up and drive home. They were decently sticky just driving around as well.

I think the common misunderstanding with everyone today, is the name people are calling their tires. I believe there needs to be a clarification.

This is the MT ET Street Radial which he says he was on.

This is the MT ET Street Drag tire. (Biased ply slick with grooves and a DOT number, I run these myself.)

We gotta have some sort of decent tread pattern to sipe the water away or else it's hydroplane city.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to clear up some points as here lately, a lot of people have gotten the two ET Street types confused.

Gotchya. Thanks for the clarification. The naming is confusing, but I think it's deliberate. You take a tire that worked well for you (like an ET Street) and then look for it in a radial. So the manufacturer carries the naming convention over to the radial tire.

The Quick Time looks like it would handle water a lot better than the Pro. The Pro was my mistake - I jumped to that conclusion.

I run the ET Street Radials exclusively (26" for the street and 28" at the track). I like the street manners they have, but have had many a white-knuckle drive in the rain with them. The most recent was coming back from Queens after having my trans replaced by CK. I had to cruise in the right lane of the Interstate with my hazards on going 35 MPH. Any faster and it was like being on ice.

I can vouch for the E/T Drag Radials being crappy in rain. Me and another guy with a late model Camaro SS got caught in the rain on the way home from the track a few weekends ago. His tires were bald and he couldn't drive faster than 30 mph without fishtailing. My tires are a bit smaller and like brand new (255/50/16) and I was starting to fish tail at about 50-55 mph. It was a downpour mind you but I wouldn't drive these tires really fast on a somewhat damp road either. I try not to drive my car if I know it's going to rain. But man these things grab on the street! I can get away with a 5 psi launch and barely spin them and again, these aren't the biggest size tires in the world!

let me begin by saying thank you all for your concern's it's very comforting, my wife is  , she can't believe how close our little community is. I was feeling a bit down but i have given thought to what you guys have pointed out ( i'm ok and it could have been worse and the car can always be fixed ( it's going to the body shop tomorrow ) you are right DR.BOOSTER i will be replaceing these tires after the body shop is done, maybe i'll just keep them for the track.

thanks again guys, it's incredible how a few type'd words can change someone's outlook on a situation. thanks again as soon as i get her fix'd i'll post pics

Man, that 1/4 panel looks bad. but glad your'e O.K.

I run the ET Street radials on the street and track. I drain them down to about 20PSi for the track and pump them up to around 25 for the street. I haven't had any problems with them in the rain yet although I only got in it caught once or twice and it wasn't heavy rain.

Glad to hear your ok. Like everyone else said it could have been alot worse. I agree you should keep those tires for the track. If you want to get rid of them let me know....

Glad to hear you're okay

Sorry to hear this happen, but like others have said it could've been a LOT worse and you have to be thankful that #1 you're okay and #2 the car only suffered minimal damage.. My brother has been using the MT 275/60/15 drag radials since they first came out both on his old GN and now on the Butang and he's been lucky to never have something like this happen.. I think in all reality any soft compound drag radial type tire (MTs, BFGs, Hoosiers, Goodyears, etc.) are not really decided to be driven on wet road conditions and most Tire Mfgs warn of this... The only tire that might be the exception to the rule is the Nittos from what I've seen, however, I'm sure if they were bald enough you could probably have the same thing happen..

-EDIT

Sorry you had to experience that the hard way. I've been preaching against running DOT tires on the street ever since I moved to FL. If I had the time I'd post the links where I said "I told you so".I just sit back and laugh when ever theres a tire thread started. I get tired of my real life experiences falling on deaf ears. I've had far to many close calls running DOT tires on the street and a lot more on the track. Fortunetly I haven't hurt anybody or banged up any sheetmetal. It's something you have to experience first hand to believe the dangers of them. When you can walk away all is good. My favorite wipe-out is when I did 3 complete 360's on the front straight at Heartland Park Topeka KS. Pouring rain and I got out of the groove doing somewhere this side of 100MPH. I missed the wall by inches. That same day some guy bunched up a brand new LT1 Z/28 on the back stretch. The hard part is going back out on the street with those same tires. You pucker at the thought of rain in the forecast.

I have no experience with MT's but will have to second the opinion on the Nittos. These are very good street tires. I was amazed at how good they are in the rain.

thanks blaze,86brick, turbofish38 and sailbrd. you are right brick it could have been alot worse, fish 3 -360's oh man i did 1 and a half and was  , i can't imagine 3, i have had someone else tell me the same thing about the nitto's sailbrd, thanks guys i just dropped the car at the body shop, my guy told me don't worry that's nothing, this guy works wonders on cars, and he's fairly priced.

thanks again guys

Damn, sorry about the care but glad you are ok.
I think you may have just changed my mind on the tires for my driver.
I can't put the MTs on the car and expect my wife to drive it any time and with any weather conditions....Man I really wanted them too!!!!

I had a similar experience without the wreck. I drove my car to work one day to show it off to some car guys and on the way home it started to rain. At the time I was wearing ET Streets. No problem until I get near the airport. The road is 5 lanes wide there and tilted slightly to the right to shed water. Unoblivious to what was going on I found myself looking at the concrete divider which should have been on my left but was in fact in front of me. Trying not to panic I let off the gas and slowly turned the car back to the right. I went about 150 degrees to the right and did the same thing to the left. Finally it started to take hold. At this point the pucker factor in my car was about 10 and I'm sure the cars behind me were wondering what the hell is going on.
I took those tires off the next day and put on Hoosier Quick times. I have yet to drive it in the rain and I don't intend to. Too much drama.

i can't blame you, as soon as i get the car back they are coming off, and your rit way to much drama, glad to hear your ok:)

well here's the latest,(?) the differentials arm is bent up-ward not much but a 1/4 inch is alot and i checked the axel and the tire wabbles(?) not to crazy but it does wabble, i have new moser axel's to install but my mechanic informed me not to let them install it, he'll do it just to be safe. ( i like it better that way anyway) that's all for now
