Need a manual for the scanmaster, you can go on fullthrottlespeed forum to down load it. plus you will find a great deal of help there as well.

Thanks, got the manual downloaded. Everything is running the way it is "supposed" to right now, so I don't think I will mess with anything. But that's how you learn, right? :D

Ohhh... You shouldn't have said that! Quick! Knock on some wood.

Well I have been around my car for about a week now (as well as this site) and I have learned quite a bit so far just doing random searches and such. But what would those of you guys that have been around these cars for multiple years consider to be the "top 3" most important things to know about them?

Thanks!

1. detonation. stay away from it

2. fuel pressure gauge you can see while driving

3. if you can find a significant other who likes your buick marry her. cuz if she dont it will put a strain on your relationship. (dont ask how i know)

1. Where the paper copy of the service manual is.

2. Where the search button is on the Turbo Buick websites.

3. Where your keys are.

Are you talking about a regular Haynes, or an actual manufacturer manual? I was going to pick up a Haynes but they are always so vague when it comes to troubleshooting and all. Wouldn't mind having a real dealership style manual.

I have never lost keys for anything (knock on wood!!!) :D

Things to know about TR's.

1.)Detonation WILL kill your motor. (not TR specific but it still applies)

2.) Someone wants to steal it.

3.)You had better know cars and turbos and understand you probably don't know much about the latter. (trust me. Only a handful of turbo guys really KNOW turbos or know enough to know they don't know enough. The rest just think they do and that's a recipe for disaster.) This can be overcome with an @ss ton of cash.

Determine exactly what you want the end product of your car to be. Then start collecting the parts because if you work your way up to what you want you'll end up selling all the parts that are partial upgrades for a lot less than you paid for them. If you find a deal on the part you want, buy it and put it on the shelf til you find the deal on the corresponding upgrade. ie (bigger turbo- larger convertor, ls1 maf sensor- translator, bigger injectors- different chip burn)

The factory service manual, accept no substitutes it's worth it's weight in gold, well the section of it devoted to our car is.

The rest of it is 1987 other Buick models which would push the price up a bit. ;)

You get the whole year of 1987 Buicks, Helm inc. used to sell them.

Powermaster brakes are junk

Translator setups add great tunability

If you drop a grain of salt on it, it will rust clear to the door handles

If you do get a lot of salt on it, it will take about 23 years to rust out.:o

Good news though, they are a relatively cheap and fast car to replace. :)

TR manual on CD...

buickman.r00td0wn.net/info.html sells the service manual on cd for only the TR's. Hopefully he still has some! They're about $20.00;)
Don't leave home w/o it!
