Well I have been around my car for about a week now (as well as this site) and I have learned quite a bit so far just doing random searches and such. But what would those of you guys that have been around these cars for multiple years consider to be the "top 3" most important things to know about them?

Thanks!

Welcome!

Welcome to the board! If you are looking for a specific part on the forums, you have to be dilligent and look everyday, and if you see the part for a price you can live with, don't hesitate to buy it, or someone else will! Good luck and have fun. John in Gainesville, Fl.

Good Question

Welcome aboard. These cars are very fun and the board members here are GREAT!

1) Not everything on the car is turbo regal specific. For example a Grand National door is the same as a base regal (and Cutlass for that matter). The "Grand National" door lock knobs are $13 on E-bay.
2) Gather lots of data to diagnose a problem or make a modification. A well tuned stock car will often out perform a car with all the high dollar parts that is not running to it's potential.
3) Things will break and go wrong. Walk away and sleep on it before getting to upset. It is 24 years old now ya know. Read here and gnttype.org and you can fix it.

High boost.....low octane......OOOOPPPSSSS!!! There went the headgaskets. You need a tool to monitor knock(Scanmaster). A good spring cleaning. And lots and lots of reading. I would say

1) fuel system upgrade
2) Scanmaster
3) check for vacuum leaks

Replace old hoses.

Read the how to speed up your windows thread.

Read the spring cleaning thread.

Enjoy. :)

Go things right the first time

Ask your self, what do i want from the car 10 years from now? set your goals/combo around that

TUNE TUNE TUNE, SCAN TOOL IS ALWAYS FIRST

Thanks for all the info fellas. I have one of the scanmasters, just trying to figure out how to use it is like long-division...lol.

Thanks again!

If you...

Need a manual for the scanmaster, you can go on fullthrottlespeed forum to down load it. plus you will find a great deal of help there as well.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. If you have to think about having enough then you shouldnt own one of these cars.

First enjoy the car:cool:,read and ask questions and above all listen to others.:rolleyes:This board will steer you in the right direction.Decide what YOU want not everyone wants a 9 sec car.:eek:Welcome

What Bison said, with what these cars lack in cubic inches, is made up for with cubic dollars

If the the car is new to you , First I would do a compression test to make sure the engine is sound before installing parts on it.

Boost gauge

Scanmaster

And enjoy the car

1) inform yourself of how these cars work- read, read, and read some more!

2) get a good insurance policy, current appraisal, and have several layers
of anti-theft protection on your car.

3) DO NOT let Joe Blow mechanic work on your car! Try and find someone
locally that knows these cars when you need work AND learn how to do
repairs yourself. Your car will break down.

Here's a freebie for you (you said 3 but I'm adding one more)- try and keep a few essential spares on hand such as MAF, crank sensor, accumulator (if you still have powermaster brake system), sensors, etc. I've found that AC-Delco is usually better quality than generic parts store brands especially when electrical in nature.

more parts, bigger cam, bigger turbos and gadgets

a faster car

1. Target for cops and thieves
2. Competition for spouse or girlfriend
3. The only material thing that you can like so much one day and hate with a passion the next.
Welcome to the World of Turbo Buicks! I wish you had asked for the top 10....
