I've been right around 140 in mine so far. Plan to go a bit quicker next year.

gave a moded c5z06 4 an the brake when i had a TE-60 hurt his feelings .... pinkney was his last name played for the panthers lol

Cleveland Pinkney, DT at NFL.com GN's were made for 1/8 1/4 not top speed tey are shaped like a brick

Bonus thread...I was clocked at 120+ hard on the brakes!! in the early 90's , i was going 145+ becuase the mustangs back then fall off at 145mph(bone stock motor,tranny,inj,turbo,18psi,with ATR pitbull chip) I crested a hill on 1-75 i think it was ,Dully County,GA..Sheriff was dead centered in the Hwy facing "us', I was racing mustang gt convertible that was a 1/2 mile back..8^),anyway, i passed the cop with speedo still buried as did the mustang, The cop punched his car, spun out on to the Hwy but then it shot him off back in the grass an was over the next hill by then..heh..i pulled in a rest area that came up an pulled in the back. I got out an headed for the rest room. I 'd forgot to lock the car, went back, an by then i had a state trooper with gun out in my face ordering me to surrender..long story short, 120+mph on Hwy = $556 to get you an your car outa jail !! Funny saying outa one the real southern accent sheriff's. " Boy, We's gonna get the Rocket Car in the next county for your Azz!!"..lol

Enjoy!

The Chassis is fine. With Very few mods, the frame/suspension will go as fast as you want to go. I probably have gone over 700 miles over 150 mph in my 1986 2+2 and its the same steering, suspension, etc. in a GN.

As delivered, a GN wasn't designed to go over 124 mph, so if you want to, you'll have to mod it.

The 1989 TTA holds the record for being the "fastest Production car in the world" @ 299 mph. Sure it was modded, but the body was still stock.
so what do you consider the minimums for chassis mods to make it stable at the higher speeds?I would assume good sway bars, shocks, better springs with around a 2in drop, and some bigger wheels with low profile/speed rated rubber.

Springs, Shocks, tall balljoints, adjustable upper control arms for more caster, Control arm bushings, Jeep steering shaft and good front brakes (like S-10 Blazer brakes) with good wheels/tires is enough for the chassis to go down the road over 160 mph.

To take corners faster, a rear sway bar would be added to the above.

To keep the nose down at speed, block off the top 1/2 of the grill, lose the SLIC for a Front mount and Add a deep front air dam on the core support.

I had my T on the Autobahn a few years ago. About 110-115 is all I really felt comfortable "cruising" at. To me, the car just didn't really feel "buttoned" down enough for sustained high speed runs. My Nissan Maxima, on the other hand, felt great "cruising" along at 130-135 mph (though my wife didn't really care for that too much).

I actually never tried a top speed run with the T on the Autobahn - guess I probably should have.

Scot W .....

I think I know that car.... a 88 Olds Cutlass..... from my neck of the woods up here. One bad azz Olds. Owned by Jerry Pickel . Very well put together.

UNGN

Your ride is just plain BAD....... a G-body that rolls along at 160 mph, and you got just one hand on the wheel and waving at the camera, nice and steady with not much major suspension set up.... awesome!!
Enjoy some of the tips you posted on other boards and here.

i know mine at a sustained 125 the front starts to dance a bit, after 15 seconds..but im sure its much faster.

Don't know how fast I was going, but did run it up to about 5100 rpm in o/d converter locked and I'll tell you, it was damned scary!!!

I've had mine indicate 150 on a vdo speedo one time. It was still pulling but this is one car that I've owned that I don't care how fast it goes. I appreciate quickness now instead...

Speaking of top MPH GNs....

Most that run road courses or top speed challenges, run with the stock body lines.

Do you guys think that the GNX fender flares would interupt the air flow?

And how does one overcome the Drag Coefficiency of a GN of 0.410 as compared to the Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe of 0.367 and the Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 Super Coupe of 0.368?

Get that out of the way and those GNs could run a decent top end.

To me UNGN has a point...>>>>
Front end lift can be bad above 130 mph, and shorter spings in front than in back helps keep the nose down. A front mount with a full core support air dam helps keep the nose down vs. the stock setup, too.

Maybe even a rear spoiler designed to keep the back end down on the ground at those speeds.

Didn't Stan Davis's , Silver State Clasic ,207 MPH Buick T-Type have a rear spoiler that looked like it came from a drag car? I read somewhere his Drag Coefficiency was 0.37.
Now that was a e-ticket ride!

My story is a little different ,I snapped a crankshaft in half and felt parts bouncing off the pavement onto the the floor of the GN at 100 mph ,wot,25 psi boost. passing a tractor trailor,i must say it was very exciting.LOL

ScanMaster has read 127 so far. Everything felt fine.
