Lou, I wasn't trying to make light of the fact that they do work. You obviously don't know me very well. I am not a BS kinda guy. Mine didn't last and it failed miserably. I will give it to you that I may have over tightened it. I guess that's possible. It broke my alternator and the strap tangled in my belt. I had to replace the alternator, belt and the air conditioning pump pulley. The flying strap also caused my chrome MAF pipe to look like it was beat with a hammer. Is that enough damage for you? I am sure if there was a poll you will find that I am not the only one that doesn't care for them. There is a reason some things should fade away. Needless to say, I agree with you on one thing. Yes, they are a cheap alternative. I was just conveying my personal experience with mine. I guess I was one of the unfortunate ones and all the rest work great. As I look at the title of this thread I see it wasn't a discussion on the merits of the strap itself, but a sales thread. I apologize for hijacking. I won't post anything else on this thread.
If that was the case I can understand you're post but honestly I have been working on TR's for 23 years now & have installed countless of these devices & never have I heard of such a thing. I'm not saying it isn't possible but news to me.Now there is a way to mount the loop on the inside of the bracket & away from any moving parts. My intention was to offer again a cheap easy way to mount a torque strap & help others out. There also is a cast forged loop available that won't break. But only use a little tension & shouldn't be a problem. This honestly also has been a test case if I want to become more active of a vendor but you're rebuttal has given me pause & reminded me of why I never became more involved. In years past i have flatly refused to become involved in the sales end of it cause some people can screw up a two car funeral.Yes even a simple torque strap!Well at least I haven't yet been accused of dealing with the Chinese.

I've been using the torque strap for a few years.
I did snap the eye bolt once.
the strap just hung there.
I then installed the regular bolt back in the alternator and hooked the strap to the middle of the bolt on top of the alternator and that has been working fine.

I think torque straps are great. As it was mentioned....if you have lots of power...you need to upgrade your engine restraints. Straps should not be used on a car with worn out motor mounts. This is what can cause breakage. If you have motor mounts in good condition....then a strap is good preventive maintenance. Good job on the straps.

Exactly Ryan , I certainty didn't think that this was any big deal & hardly worth any serious discussion but some good points were brought out & there is always something to be learned with differences of opinion.

whats the difference between this and the ones you can get at home depot for less than $10 each?

Please spend the time go to home depot & every other hardware store in your area & come up with the correct width, length, wire hook ends, & ratchet assembly. That will fit in the confined 12" space that there is to work with. It doesn't exist. I did my research & had to have them made. But if you can find them for 10 bucks I will be your customer.

Just for reference

Below are a couple of pictures of the strap installed on my wife's car. The second shot was taken from under the car and shows the frame slot where the strap hook goes.

Her car has just recently been put back together after being down since Norwalk 2004 . I saw this thread by Lou and was happy to see an oportunity to buy a new clean strap to go along with the fresh rebuild. Lou shipped it out in short order. Installation was simple. When installing it, I didn't ratchet it real tight, with the idea of letting the engine mounts do their job, and the strap only comes into play during heavy loads.

A Kirban sourced strap was installed on this car many many years ago and probably had over 50k miles on it before it was replaced by this new clean strap.

HTH,
-john
