Took my car for a blast on Saturday Scanmaster read 4.50 on TPS in second gear for about 3 seconds, then into 3rd gear dropped down to 4.20. I dont know if this means anything or i should be looking for anything, but according to my studies here TPS should read between 4.50 and 4.90@WOT. My TPS is set at .46 at idle is there anything i should be aware of?? new TPS or something?.

thanks

jojo

Are you sure your foot was ALL THE WAY to the floor the WHOLE TIME? Make sure the floormat isnt stuck under the gas pedal. If you let off the gas the slightest bit, your TPS will reflect and show a lower voltage.

Anything over 3.42 at WOT if fine, if you want to split hairs this is with a .44 idle TPS. If you want to verify that accurately building an ecm bench will let you actually test things.

The thing to make sure of that the butterfly is in fact fully open, at WOT.

Might also read up on what TPS voltage triggers a too high TPS malfunction code.

I know you may not think so but you were lifting your foot off the throttle. This is very common.

Thanks guys, hey Bruce how can i check to see if the butterfly is fully open? not sure where to look for that. still learning about the readings and numbers and things about these cars.

thanks

May be a minor thing, but if you are sure that you didn't move the accelerator, the 4.50 to 4.20 change could be a small voltage drop due to a weak battery or the fact the RPMs drop at the shift point. Since the alt rpms drop when shifting from 2 to 3, the scanmaster frame capture might have just captured this change in alt. ouput.

I don't think is matters much, unless this lowers all the other sensor readings as well. Might be worth it to have both the battery and alternator tested, and to also check all the GND connections too.

Thanks 6=8 the alternator is new, and the battery was in there when i bought the car. The Scanmaster is reading volts at idle at about 13.9 to 14.1 which im assuming is good. Im sure what ever reading the TPS is giving, it is fine. The car seems to run pretty strong all around.

thanks

As Bruce said, the only thing that matters is that the throttle opens fully. Pull the up pipe off and make sure it does and you will be all set

Thanks black, i just need a little more detail about how to check for this. You say to pull the up pipe off going to the throttle body correct? then what next? bare with me still learning about this stuff.

thanks

jojo

Pull the uppipe off and with the car OFF have someone in the drivers seat floor the car. Your job is to look at the throttle plate and see if it opens flat or almost flat.

Thanks Salvage, that is what i wanted to know as i figured.

thanks again

jojo

Pull out the floor mat and have someone step on the gas and have their face look like this:mad:

With the up pipe off look straight down the TB and make sure the throttle butterfly is horizontal (completely flat) and you are all good. If its not flat you may have to adjust the throttle valve cable or linkage slightly

like bruce said...as long as the throttle blade is open and i like to have the tps over 4.0 at WOT and mine is at around 4.40 so that is fine...fuel enrichment mode occurs at like 75% throttle in most chips which is about 3.75 or something
