Thanks Jerryl and Boostmaster!

I'll adjust the Translator Plus to 3" Idle Rich and see what happens. I was actually thinking about that this morning.

Like you've noticed, I was getting too worked up over the BLMs on idle and now that it's no longer pegged and all leaks seem to be fixed I'll just leave it alone and move on to tuning with the wideband.

The wideband is a new animal to me, so I appreciate all the info that I can get.

It’s really a darn tough call between the Turbo Tweak chip and the Extender chip. I love each and wished I could have features of both in one chip. TT shows a smoother idle and allows much smaller adjusts in timing and fueling, but it maxes the AF at 255. The extender has allows AF over 255, lean cruise mode and honestly the car feels more aggressive with it’s in. I’m figure that part of the aggressiveness is because the TT chip is a street chip were as the Extender is an Alky chip.

Thanks!

First off (Read, and than re-read carefully!);
Both TT and TurboBob are excellent chip writers and are on top of their game!
There are other chip writers who are on top of their game as well, but do not “sell” chips, and therefore "do not count" for the sake of this illustration.

Now, I have never used anything but TT chips and the resolution for adjustments is very important. We all know how finicky these HA’s are!
It is also my belief that (except for TT) most of the chip writers have never really burned chips for the HA’s, and they are a different animal.
The “performance laws” are somewhat different between an IC’d and Non-IC’d car. That is just a fact of life.

BUT……

Comparing chips is like saying: Which alky system is better?
IMHO, the “Alkycontrol system” becasue it is Buick Specific, and it is proven to work. :D

Eric,
Based on this post and info from Pat your car is coming along quite well. Tuning with the wideband and trying to get off the line a little harder will net you your 7 second pass. As far as the chip its just like any other. The more time your able to work with someone to burn and re-burn a chips the more mannered the chip will become. I ran both TT and the extender extreme ,vs my own custom chip, and to this day still prefer to run my own chips. It is not that they cannot burn a chip , it is I can taylor and tweak my own chip and make changes that the car responds to. IMO, I would recommend buying a NICE programmer with blank EPROMS and a chip burner to taylor to your combo. I've been doing it for years and car has never run better.. Have some literature if you ever want to go that route... I like the idea of DIY when it comes to chip burning and tuning.. The next step is FAST and be done..

Mike

This is what i too beleive myself. I custom tuned a few chips on my car as well and it ran great. I also had a extender extreme 55lb chip for a while. It ran great and has some nice features about it. The next thing is a programable aftermarket system or get into chip burning. Good luck eric if you have any questions fell free to call me and i will help ya out the best i can. This ahs been a learning experiance for me too cause the HA can be a tad different int eh tuning department.

Jerryl, You Da Man! I set the Translator Plus to 3" Rich Idle and drove the car around for 30 minutes. I pulled into the garage, threw it in park and let it settle for a minute. BLM was at 126.

I hear you on the chips. I'm probably going to put the TT back into the car and generate some good datalogs and send them to Eric for a nice TT alky chip.

Mike, I appreciate the offer and will probably take you up on getting info on burning my own chips. I burned chips a long time ago for handheld barcode scanners that a company I worked for, so this is would not completely be unfamiliar thing to me. Just not chips for cars. A FAST system might just be in my future, but it's more than likely a year or so down the road though.

Pat you've been a great friend and I really appreciate all the help you've given me so far. By the way, I saw you on the News last night involving the 4 alarm fire. You're not suppose to bring weenies and marshmallows to a fire fight ;)

Thanks Jamie!

This coming weekends project is going to be body bushings. UPS should get them to me today and my buddy Pat is going to help me out. He's done two sets in the past and will be a great help getting them on.

Eric

please remeber to bring some extra clothes, cause doing the bushings can get ya nasty pretty quick. I think i have everything that we might need to installed. I have plenty of WD40 and some light grease to keep the poly bushing from making any noises in the future.

Thanks Sam. I must be doing something right if all you IC guys are popping into the Hotair forum.

Pat, I'll bring the the clothes and if it gets too bad, just hose me down

Eric the suspension work will really improve your drivability of the car. Have fun doing the body bushings...

Now you know me better than that Pat:confused: I'm basically going through the process of making this a great street/strip car. There are a lot of people that have nicer, faster cars than mine (Yours being one of them). Just enjoying being around great people that have a passion for their cars like I do.

calm down it's just a joke  jeez

Pat, Korey and I did the body bushings yesterday. That really improved the cars handling and over all feel. Before the bushings I would really have to slow down when coming up on a curve or making a turn, that's no longer a big issue. It also has smoothed out the over all ride. Now it doesn't feel like I'm driving at the speeds that I'm really going.

The only possible downside is that the poly bushings do transmit some of the road to car. That might go away once the bushings settle down, but it no big deal if it doesn't. I really don't mind a little road feel, it keeps me more in tune with the car and what's going on. Going poly instead of rubber also saved me about $200 ($106 shipped vs. $295 plus shipping).

Here's what I bought for reference

A HUGE thanks to Pat for helping me out!
