I opened up the runner exits, going about 2 inches in on my intake, and matched to the gasket, while I had it off to replace a suspicious intake gasket. Obviously, given the hug taper of the runners, the cross section got opened up quite a bit from this. I have absolutely no numbers to give, but there was a BIG improvement in power. Not one of those "I think it may sound louder and therefore it must be a little faster....yeah i think it is....has to be..." kind of thing. It was a DEFINITE improvement in power and spoolup. But I also dont have a stock turbo. I think the ports of the intake and heads should increase as a turbo's size increases. With a stock turbo, seems we should leave the runner cross section alone, and maybe do a little intake porting and maybe some valve pocket work at the most. If you're trying to whittle down those last few tenths, start focusing on parasitic losses, like try some RJC underdrives, loosen up the wheel bearings, inflate the front tires some more, loosen the e-brake cable...crap like that.

I purchased the tires about 3 years ago, and they were 3-4 years old then.
Hmmmmm
Maybe a set of hoosiers in the future, hey can i borrow yours next time?? Just kidding!
From what i hear, you dont have to drill the hoosiers because of their bead lock design correct? I forget, i havent purchased slicks for awhile and then some.

Yeah, that bu is sick, the blue station wagon right? Last week he went 9.97 at 135 or so, ON THE BUMPER for 60' or so..
That was awesome to see it like that, and on drag radials too..
You going to come down next sunday?

Try a set of Phoenix 28.5x 9 slicks. I went a best of 1.58 with the stock turbo and engine off the foot brake long ago with them. Lots of 1.60's. Only mods that thing really had was a dutt neck intercooler and opened up compressor exhaust housing. Nothing internal from the intake down. I had stock upper control arms, boxed lowers, stock sway bar, and an air bag. Weight was 3550. I was only 150 lbs then, lol. Wish i was still that weight when i race. Now i just have 80 lbs more ballast in the driver seat.

My post was for your encouragement and to bring up ideas

Your right, i hope my post wasnt taken wrong.. I went back and reread it, for some reason when i was typing, i was trying to explain that i was between a rock and a hardplace on tuning the car. Since there is really nothing to tune except for how much meth to use. And that we worked hard together getting your car running perfect getting those numbers...

Now that i read it, it looked like i was being a smart arse, well, at least cocky.
That wasnt the case, you know me and i wasnt trying to be a dickhole ;)

Did you order parts for your dads motor yet?

Thanks for the ideas guys, im gonna port the exhaust housing and eventually the intake... and match the stock t-body to the upper plenum.

Ive got the week of thanksgiving off, maybe get everything done for the last sunday of the year here... 11.75s???

Hey Bryan, congrats on those awesome time slips. How do you hold 10lbs of boost on the footbrake? I've tried with my car & @ 1-2 lbs the tires start to break loose, (street tires) with the slicks I can hold 2-3lbs. What's your secret? D o you have a higher stall converter? S-10 brake cylinders? Softer brake shoes?

It took me so long to reply cause i was viewing the pictures of your limited. You know i want it!!! :)

I let the thread die, cause i really thought we had 2 weeks left of racing and thought i could get the car a tad faster, bring the thread back with a better time...

We got a few inches of ice and alot more snow than expected, the season is over.

I dont have any secrets about the brakes, they are just the stock brakes with stock rear steel drums.

My technique when racing, is to control the lights. I will not set the second set of lights till the other driver already has. I just make sure i always control the lights in all my runs.
If its a turbo regal friend i race, i always wait a few seconds more just for a good race.

I do try and flash the convertor, it wont push the car forward.. Since ive always had good luck spooling turbo buicks, i just wait and bring the car to where it needs to be, and not sit there for 5-10 seconds on the launch boost.
If i did that the trans would be toast for sure.

What i like best about this car, is i got it to go 13.9 the first time when i purchased the car years ago,12.3s the second time to the track here this late fall, and went 11s the 3rd or 4th time to the track.

If you did a search for "got the limited out of the garage", you would see that i do not drive this car at all. I try and keep it perfect, and it is NOT my fast car or racecar. I was trying to keep it mostly stock as i purchased the car from the original owner with the kenne bell intercooler ect.
The car is 100% stock, except for what is mentioned, if anyone has questions, post up or ask.. Please, that is why we are here...
Ive recieved alot of valid questions that should be addressed, and the car does not have nitrous oxide, it is more of a bone stock show car that i tuned to go fast.

The last time the oil was changed was 2-14-03 i think.
The most ive done to it is 340 pump, Erics chip, added the adjustable wastegate and rjc valve.
Ive tried to make the car as the same as anyone elses car as they purchased it in 1986 or 87.

My post is to let everyone know that these cars are very easy to make go fast with little done to them, that doesnt always mean its the best way.
But if the car is tuned right, and the right fuel good times are always around the corner.

you might think about fresh valve springs, and locating the .82 turbine housing off a Garrett "Stage 2" turbo......

Phoenix Slicks = hot stuff
