finally going to a trans brake for an 87 grand national wonder what is the best option out there for a trans brake that u can launch form drive?

for the 2004r there arent any options for a D release . stagerite mechanical or EA electronic release require the trans to be in low 1.
the stagerite activates by shifting into low 1 and needs to bumped out of low 1 to release , they had a shifter gate to allow it to slide right to D , i always went to 2 and then manually shifted to D
the EA needs to be put in low before activating the trigger button and then after you release you need to shift 1-2 (or to D ) manually which on a track car can be withing a few feet of launching

even a TH400 brake most have to be put in 1st gear before engaging and only a few like the griner+2 allow you to leave in 2nd (more suited for the higher HP 275x cars)

OK THANKS IT SEEMS LIKE THE EA ELECTRONIC IS SO MUCH MORE $ FOR A LONGER PROCESS TO GET THE CAR TO LAUNCH

I see you are a new member, are you sure your car is ready for one of these, hard on car, tranny and eventually on the wallet.

Ya we have been slowly building the car over the past 3 years while racing it all three of the years

Ok just checking, had a new tranny built few months ago, my guy said no way on the brake so im settled on line lock. Just have to install this winter.

Line lock is not used for launching. Line lock is used for burnout box. When launching with sticky rear tires using only a line lock the front tires will just slide. You either use a trans brake, or regular two pedal footbrake launch

Not a longer process and much faster to release.
When you let go of the button its like dumping a clutch , you are still in first gear and you have to shift to 2 and 3 . The 1-2 may be only 60' depending on how your cars rpms climb .

Mechanical trans brakes while ok for a bragging rights type racer to get a good e.t. are a liability issue and not NHRA legal. I won't install one in a customers transmission. You can't easily tie the mechanical type into your electronics like you can with the electric. You're going to get crushed on a pro tree vs a seasoned racer with an electric brake.

What type of gains do people typically see with a brake? 2700rpm/5psi my car bogs on the 28" slicks with a borg s366 so hoping 4000rpm launch does the trick.
