Which fluid do you guys recommend and how often do you change your fluid and filter? My car is driven about 2k miles a year and gets out to the track a couple of times a year as well. It shifts and works good and I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks.

Dextron III is fine..DO NOT use Ford Type F in your 200-4R (Type F works great and gives a firmer shift in a TH350 or TH400 though!) -Jimmy.

Ford Type-F is said to be harder on the friction materials and may be more prone to varnishing in the 200-4R. Dextron III/Mercon is the most preferred fluid for the street with some builders also advocating tractor hydraulic fluid for severe duty. For a strip-only car, the Type-F may be fine as the unit will probably be rebuilt/freshened long before the fluid can affect it.

TCI makes a good fluid, has some additives that will help reduce the heat and foaming. The part number for a case is 950600.
Thanks Lowell

Type F is actually better for the frictions as it has a higher coefficient of friction. This is due to the frictions that are/were used in the Fords trannys.

Be aware that the new dextron you buy at the stores are formulated for more slip for smoother shifts for the newer cars:eek:  .

Lonnie at Extreme Automatics says run the Type F in the trans he built for me and I run it. I think he knows just a little about the stuff:cool: .

There is nothing wrong with Type F. I have run it in every 200 ive built with great results. Its makes for a quicker grab with less slip. Ford had to do this to make up for a crappy tranny haha jk. I do not recommend Synthetic. I have had a very bad experience with synthetic causing a band to not grab on the first few shifts of a new tranny. Nothing else was changed or found to be wrong, other than a fresh band and regular type F and the transmission worked perfectly after that.

the major differences in Type F and Dextron is the additives. Type F is almost straight hydrolic (sp) oil like you'd use in an old tractor. It has very few additives. Dextron as more friction additives as well as detergents to help keep varish from forming.

Type f will eat your trans don't do it keep it for the tractor.Believe me I know $2000 in the hole.

Im not trying to be rude, but this is absolutely not why your tranny failed. The builder may have told you that, buts it not. Type F has been used in every 200 I have built and none have had issues and is recommended by almost every vendor on here.:) .

Type F is not going to kill your trans.
No doubt it sux that you lost your trans, sorry that you lost it but that cant be the reason.
Interested on why you think/told it was.

As far as it in comparison to Dextron and it being quicker to varnish, faoming, etc.
That dont jive because evry C6, FMx, C4, AOD, etc would not live eny where near the time a GM trans would.

Its been used for years in a ton of GM transmissions with outa problem.

Heres a llil something most folks dont know and spend a bit extra on it. B&M Trick shift fluid ...well you read the back and guess what...Type F and it gives firmer shifts ,etc.
