I searched and read that the street chips (93 octane) for non-alky injection run the same fuel but less timing than an alky chip... I just wanted to confirm if this is correct with Eric. Car was running too much fuel with stock inj, stock turbo and 43 psi fuel pres. line off running 20psi boost. I added 3 degrees of timing across the board but i am hesitant to start pulling fuel. Any suggestions? AFR was 10.9 on the scanmaster reading from the wideband with 2 degrees of knock in second I believe, I have to check the powerlog to be certain. Thanks in advance.

Or turn the boost up along with the alky knob if needed to deter knock. I heard the 93 octane chips work for alky. But I think it is worth it to upgrade to an alky chip. My $.02.

When did you see the knock. End of track or during gear change? I do not think you should have knock at that AFR and alky.

I have to doublecheck when I get home if it was second or third, but it wasnt on the shift, it was about 1/4 the way through the gear. i dont think i should either, timing was set to 23/21 according to what the chip said + the 3 I added. Ill play with it a little until I hear from Eric about the fuel trim differences. Thanks again.

In your case, the fueling would be the same between the two chips. If you are only running 20psi on a stock turbo, then you'll have to reduce alky or fuel, whichever works better on your car.

the only wierd thing was there was some detonation. Maybe it was false knock?

knock

not quite sure how to distinguish false knock yet. it happened 3 times in the same gear, first 2 were 1 then the last was 2 degrees. hopefully I have time to get these tires mounted and come out on sunday and see how it does if I pull a little fuel and add a bit more methanol. theknob was at about 3 on that pass I think. I'm gonna try it on 4, any suggestion on how much fuel to begin pulling? 3%? or is that too much of a jump?

3% sounds good to start with. Sometimes you have to juggle back and forth between fuel and alky to see what works best on your car.

I am also running a non alky chip with razors kit and am running 21 psi boost with more timing and wot fuel and 0 knock. everyone tells me the non alky chip is too rich on the low end and hurting performance, is this true?

How do you have your alky setup, knob-wise? Running straight methanol or something else? I was still at 0 change of fuel on the chip and today on the high-way in third it was running 20psi, 0 kr but < 10.0 on the wideband(it only goes to ten...) So tomorrow before I head to the track, I'll test out -3% on the highway out there and then play it by ear at the track. I'll keep posted on how it does.

I am running straight meth,I think the knob is just about at 7 . my wot is at 138 ( car runs lean) and timing is about 21-22 degrees.

Man, I wish I could get my car to run lean... At the track yesterday i pulled 6.some% fuel out and had the methanol at 6 and it still was a consistantly < 10.0 air/fuel ratio... i also hit 4 degrees of knock at the top of second just before the shift. car only ran a 13.4@99 with a 1.80 60'. I really think its capable of better, theres just too much fuel. I guess I'll pull some more and see how it goes.

If you're only getting knock at the very top of 2nd, it could be the tranny flaring. I've seen that alot. It could be you have the alky too high, trying to get rid of that knock.
Can you see what the RPM's are doing on the 2-3 shift?

rpm

hm ok, the rpms go up steady, even through the knock and then the knock stops and at about 5050-5100 it grabs 3rd. it looks clean, but I don't know what tranny flare would look like. would I feel the trans do that? because I did feel almost a stutter for a half second before the shift.
