The failsafe already exists, it's built into the ISAC boost/meth controller. Works great. With my boost set at 20psi, when the low alky light is triggered it drops the boost to 7psi. Good stuff.
I wasnt aware it did that. interesting

By the time your gauges/lights/beepers indicate a problem and you react to it, it's too late. Ask me how I know.

I made the same type of blunder before. It only cost me a plug. No ask me if i had any problem since... nope. Drove it to work today, no alky and kept he boost under 10psi. Wasn't hard at all. Every system can fail, no matter how many options you add to it.

The alky system didnt fail. The car had a wiring issue.

Rule number 1.. Always test your system's'

Hang a sign from your rear view..
1) Fuel level
2) Alcohol level
3) Test the alky kit?
4) First pass is ALWAYS on LOW BOOST

Do these tests.. you'll live long and proper

BTW.. if the ISAC was dead.. it would have created the carnage anyways. Or any other system on the car used to protect it.

My pump has failed 2 times now also.
1st time took out the headgaskets, now i always run a mix of racegas and alky.

And you use Razors pumps? Straight Meth? How old were the pumps? No signs of meth leaking from the pump? And you had both pumps tested to determine they were bad after this head gasket issue? What was the tune like? Its possible but you'd have to be one unlucky man to have it happen twice....

Ever look at Snickers ingredients? Its "active" ingredient is methanol. No wonder its soooooooooo good and goes so fast.

Sorry to see the damage. Unfortuantely comes with the territory. Things happen no matter what failsafes you put in place. I've never ran alky/meth, etc. Just always ran whatever gas I needed. It's not to say things won't go wrong. Good luck to you and thanks for sharing.

Sorry to see that happen, it's a total bummer but at least it's the end of October and not June where you might lose a month or two of driving it.

The test/prime button is your friend, every time you get in your GN.

I wait for my GN to bog right before I leave the driveway every time it goes out, that's how I chased down an old, weak pump by how long it took to bog down the car.

And wouldn't the red to green LED function under the, lost pump power, scenario to be our visual help?

No offense to the alky guys

But i think having two fuel systems is can be a problem! If the alky quits the motor stays running but on low octane fuel. so not only is it lean, it can't tolerate the boost levels.

If you have race gas in the tank( yes the intake pump can die/get weak) But generally thats not that big of a issue. Yes the motor will go lean, but you have the octane there you need to help it from beating itself to death.

This is just my opinion and i know that there will be folks that will roast my @ss for saying it. but the truth is the truth!

I'M DONNING MY FIREFIGHTING TURN OUT GEAR NOW :)

TURN OUT GEAR ON check
SCBA ON check
Air mask on check
Gloves on check

Flamers have at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine is the old style smc nonprogressive. The second time it happened i did hit the test button before the run and it worked before staging.I saw some knock on the run and backed right out,i learned my lesson from the first time.I think the mix of racegas really saved the headgaskets the 2nd time. And yes after pulling the pumps and trying to power them up either would work.

It's a non progressive SMC kit. All I had to do was look at the "IDIOT" light and see it wasn't on. It was one of those trying to hurry and get to track. Haven't been in awhile and a million things going through my mind. This is the second time. The other happened in between runs and it lost power to alky with my shady wiring. On that run I lost a headgasket and my transmission, which was just rebuild. A little $5 bearing that "doesn't need replacing" came apart. So a 25 cent electrical spade and a little bearing and I get to rebuild everything.

thats fine assuming the low level switch is working, but it won't save you in the event of a pump failure like a pressure switch would (assuming said switch didn't also fail, with the whole "having corrosive methanol flowing thru it" thing). i am kind of a gadget guy and think it would be a fun experiment in lieu of a high-dollar boost controller. i got all the parts lying around for zippo so that doesn't hurt ;) to whoever posted the pic of the gasket above: that thing looks horriffic! i'm sure mine look the same or worse because when the seller took me for a ride in it, it knocked like he was pounding on a train track with a sledgehammer! the kid was a serious knucklehead. what brand are/were those gaskets fwiw?

True enough. It does have multiple triggers for a low pressure switch, afr control etc that would work with that.

They were felpros that only had 500 miles on them.Great way to break in the rebuilt engine, lol. You will know if they are as bad as mine were, barley ran and it was blowing coolant like you have never seen.I felt bad for the other cars on the road.I was surprized it made a 4 mile drive back to my work to park it for the night.

4 miles!!!? gadzooks! mine would start and run for about 3 minits then start the squeak squeak and stall/ misfire. poor thing... i treat my motorized toys like they have feelings lol :( it had a 10.7 time slip laminated in the back seat, along with a 2k reciept for new cometic gaskets from cottons a week later lol. the kid didn't learn his lesson. he ran er out of meth twice despite the functioning low fuel light. best i can tell, he thought it was an actual low fuel (gasoline) light and chose to ignore it. he knew nothing about the car. yes, it was a steal, yes, it will be a mighty street sleeper once more! ;)

Update. Finally got motor pulled and the little electrode off of spark plug sure did a lot of damage. I'm going to start a new thread to get some advice. Like will I have to tear block down all the way to deal with the cylinder? etc.

I use the Spark Translator & when alky is off, the timing is retarded from alky setting.

dammm.. just a "reminder" .. detonation is a killer with just driving the car !!! I know you have been told this a thousand times  EVERY time I go out I push the test button on the alky . We DRIVE our cars a lot so when something doesn't "feel" right you do some digging to see what the problem is. Doesn't feel right DON'T go pounding on the car . I have seen burnt plugs on everything.. pump gas, alky, and race gas. Knock is knock.
