A friend of mine were discussing turbos and he hasn't been in the game for a while. He was talking about a PT 54 and I was asking what turbo was comparable to it, thats available today? TE 49, TE 60??? Opinions???

The 6262 would be comparable but it will make significantly more power

A TE61 with Precision turbine housing is a PT54 if you get it from Precision, so that tells you where it fit with the old-school turbos.

Correct on both accounts.
PT54 was rated at 640 fwhp maxed out.

The closest thing we sell today would be either a Billet 6057 E cover rated at 630 fwhp, or a Billet 6062 E cover, rated at 650 fwhp. The PT54 falls between those two models, but spool up would be significantly quicker with either one, compared to the PT54.

The 6262 would be a much better choice if wanting low 11 second power and decent spool up with a spec'd converter.

Thanks for the info. With the TE 60 is the spool time a little slow for a "street" car with a 3000 stall, or should it be fine?

A 60 with a 3000 stall should come on "right now".

IMO, it depends on whose 3000 stall converter it is, as not all 3000 stall converters are created equally.

Example: An old school Red Stripe 12" 3000 stall l/u converter will spool up dramatically different than a PTC 9.5" 3000 stall. Big difference.

I had a Pat's 10" 3000 stall lock up on my stock motor car, and even with a dual ball bearing TE-60 turbo, spool up was ok. Not spectactular Holy crap I'm gonna put this sucker in the ditch! But just ok. I could foot brake it for decent 60fts and launch hard with the E brake for even better. But it was not like the old days of an Art Carr 16930 9" non lockup 3200.
Just my O2's worth.

So a PTC 9.5" 3000 would be a "better" stall for quick spools (heard some good things about them) IYO???

Get a 6262 air cooled ballbearing. Then you will need only 2800 or so stall. PTC 10 in is a good lock up convertor. Of course I would have Lonnie freshen that trans before. With traction and some alky low 11's.

But 1st you have to get the car!!!

:) Don't worry, I'm not putting the horse before the cart. Just trying to get a idea of the "best" combo for what I'll need....unless a killer, cheap, once in a lifetime deal comes along...besides yours of course. :)

Correct on both accounts.

I guess I maxed my 54 out then!!! According to the horsepower converters I was at 630 RWHP. :D
