I bought a Turbonetics CPT-70-P BB about a year ago and have only about 25 passes and 1000 miles on it. I took my DP off today to fix a leak and the shaft has some serious play. Not enough to hit the housing but it has both side to side and in and out. Anyone else having problems with them? Im thinking Precision.

I've had nothing but turbonetics ever since i replaced the stock turbo years ago.... from my 60-1 bb to my 66 bb - NEVER a problem.... did you buy it from Jack.... He's a great guy and I'm sure will help ya out.

I've owned my car for 10 years and had it "stock" for about 1 month  [if that] - So ive had about 9years and a lot of change of turbonetics turbo experience w/o a problem. I think their newer stuff is even better than when i first bought'em... like i said call Jack. He'll take care of ya.;)

Remember any specific brand turbo isn't magical. I'm sure every manufacturer - EVERY - has had some defective ones..... i had a guy in the local Buick club that went through a few PT-5x's before he got one "right" and i'm sure there has been bad Limit turbos as well. Just my opinion though, take it for what its worth.

You say it's not hitting...no smoking or leaking I presume? You may be over reacting, and that tubo may be just fine. I've run turbos with a fair amount of play in them, and it's a real judgement call as to how much is TOO much.

Ive seen some early BB nits that had end play when new. The T72 in my sig is one. I have ran it through third at 24+psi over 500 times. No problems. Call the vendor you bought it form.

That sucks, call your vendor. Turbonetics has a year warranty. Is yours up yet?

Ive had a similar problem, I heard that Tnetics BB turbos have a slight amount of side to side play, it might be fine but I would check with Tnetics.

im thinking you could have bought my 70GTQ , you need to come over and take a ride in this 6776 youll like it .

ball bearing turbos generally feel a little sloppy. are there any other problems such as smoking ?

Turbonetics warranty is one-year-no-questions-asked. I had to send one back after blowing a head gasket and sending nasty oil through it. They knew up-front why it was coming back for a rebuild. They sent a call-tag to pick it up and sent it back when done. No shipping costs either way!!!
Ditto on Jack Cotton taking care of things. Good luck, hopefully its under warranty still.

I have the same turbo that I bought from Jack as well. No play in mine either after 3000 miles and at least 1 or 2 passes.....lol
It's as tight as a.....something about a Nun and Sunday.:D

I have the same turbo that I bought used and there is very little side-to-side play, if any at all. But, if it's not hitting either housing and it's not smoking I wouldn't worry about it (unless it's still under warranty and then you might want to have it looked at).

that's why I bought from Jack...I KNOW he'll take care of me if I need warranty and he was great to deal with. I question T'netics a bit...but I know with Jack in the loop all is well.

Well im pretty sure im out of teh warrantee since i bought the turbo about 5 months before i even put it on the car. I did buy it from jack and will bring it there this weekend and have him take a look and see what he thinks. It does smoke a little but i think its because im running rich. Thanks for the replies.
