I bought a new Turbonetics BB CPT 62 a few weeks ago, started install this weekend only to find that the holes that were drilled in the turbine housing are drastically off. The holes in relation to each other are correct however they are NOT on center. be aware if you buy a Turbonetics turbo or any other turbo that the holes are drilled correctly when you recieve it. I fear that too much time has past since I got the turbo (about a month) to attempt a return so we are taking the downpipe to a machine shop to have the downpipe flange slotted to attach correctly and line up to the downpipe.
We are using one of the drill holes that seemed to be drilled close to center. This isn't a downpipe alignment issue, I know it's a TTA and fit is critical but just moving the pipe around isn't the solution and couldn't be a solution. If the pipe was attached and if the downpipe could be beat into submission the wastegate puck wouldn't align correctly/cover the wastegate hole (we looked) also there would be a over hanging lip on the exhaust exit of turbine housing itself causing unwanted turbulence, the stocker fit and the TE44 fit no problems. Pictures below testify clearly to the sloppy lack of craftsmanship.
First shows the TE44 and it's ON center holes, the next shows how the Turbonetics is OFF. The next is a paper template that was laid over both turbos to compare the difference. This isn't fun, especially when considering what the machine shop costs are going to be. So much for "true bolt on parts"

Why don't you send the housing back and get a new one?

Thought about that, but I'm trying to get the car back together for the Buick event in 2 weeks. With the experiences I've had in the past with various vendors and different parts suppliers it seems like you spend more and more time and money on shipping charges that your just as well off to fix things yourself. I figure that shipping costs in comparison to what it will cost to get my exhaust flange slotted will be a difference of about $80 to $100. Also, I want folks to be aware of this problem, I can't be the only one that's got a housing that wasn't correctly drilled. I would think that turbonetics would have a specific jig that they would bolt all turbos to to check alignment before they send them out.

...that seems odd - i have owned 2 turbonetics turbos and have one on the car now and didnt have any problems. you might wanna call your vender maybe they can express mail or overnight a housing if there is a problem.

Not sure who you are or if I sold you the turbo, but since you used one of my part numbers, I can only assume you purchased your turbo from me. It seems you are jumping to conclusions by saying there is not enough time to fix the problem, and discussing all these extra costs involved to repair your problem. A simple call to me will have the problem repaired about as quick and cost free as posssible. I understand your frustration, after building these cars for the last 10-12 years, I have seen more issues with part fitment from every manufacturer out there, most have welcomed our constructive critism when contacted and promptly rectified the situation without any fuss. Can you PM me a number you can be reached at this morning or call me at the shop and I will take care of this for you immediately.

As far as quality control, I've been to Turbonetics a couple of times the last 6 months and have to say, have not seen anything other than the most professionally operated company one could imagine. All exhaust housings are machined on CNC machines, pretty difficult to mess up there. I don't dispute your housing having misalignd bolt holes, only that you state there is an issue with quality control. This will be the first time I have seen it.

I just talked to Jack Cotton and he has dropped a new turbo in the mail. He's a super nice guy and a real professional. I obviously snapped a bit and had a digital camera in hand to fuel my fire. He's rectified the situation. I want to add that I didn't realize CPT was a direct reference to Jack, It wasn't my intention to talk negativaley of him or his business on a public forum, just figured it was a product ID in general. Thanks Jack.

Jack is a great guy and I knew he would take care of you even if you bought it a month ago.
