Drag racing fans don't forget to tune in the the US Nationals on Monday.
First rounds at 12:00 pm et and final rounds starting at 8:00 et on ESPN2
This is the grand daddy of em all and a must see ;)

I'm watching qualifying right now and they're running stout this weekend!
Get the record books ready again.

I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got home!! Sun burned like a mofo!!
What a weekend!!! :D
Have some sweet photos also!!!

Great race... but

Steve Johnson was robbed !!! in Pro Stock Bike

He flat out won that race...Typical NHRA depending only on numbers...Then blamed the "camera angle" for the discrepancy... How much angle can a camera have when its dead square with the finish line!

Did anyone see the guy on pedregons team lift the funny car body and snagged the throtle linkage? I tapped it to the DVR and whatched it in slowmo. All I can say was the guy was extremely lucky. The guy on the side of the car actually had his pants blown off by the headers looked like he was wearing shorts. Then the car hit the tree...weird Sh*t

NHRA does not even mention this on their website! It was VERY OBVIOUS that the timing device was wrong. Video shows Steve Johnson was two feet ahead way after the finish line. The NHRA has gone way downhill IMO. Look at all the empty seats at most events.

No wonder NHRA is considered a 2nd rate motorsport. ESPN proves that by having it's NHRA TV coverage over ridden by little league games and soccer games. Can you imagine something like this happening in the NFL, MLB or NASCAR???

Paul ,
You are so right. Even my wife has noticed the empty stands and she does not watch religiously like I do. I took her to her 1st NHRA event , the Gatornationals in 1999. There was not a seat empty in the house. That has changed in the last 6 years.

It still amazes me that they actually looked at the picture and ruled that it was a camera angle issue. Then they also blamed his bike, which had made multiple passes all weekend with no timing clock issues. NHRA was ducking and sliding on that one.

Then if you closely look at the winner he has this smile like of disbelief or dishonesty, because he knew he did not win. In PSB if you see any part of your oponent in you peripheral vision they won, unless there was a redlight.

Im trying so hard to find that photo finish pic...

I was there yesterday my first time also. Very impressed with the top fuel guy's. I still like pro-stock the best.

We really enjoy NHRA racing and used to go to Indy each year and I'm sure Indy is still packed, but at other national events, like Rt. 66 here in Chicago, attendance is down big time. They even cancelled the 2nd event at Rt 66 for lack of interest.

I really feel credibility is an issue. This prostock motorcycle fiasco highlights that problem. If they don't investigate and straighten out this one, they are becoming the WWF of motorsports IMO. That picture was not even close and even the announcers seemed shocked when they showed it.

We love fuel & funnycar classes but those multi-car teams make the race results often questionable when team mates run each other later in the season. We now consider the class as an exhibition and actually enjoy qualifying races more because you know the cars are trying their best plus there are more cars running. Night qualifying is awesome!

It's sad, but kind of funny, how scheduled TV coverage is often delayed for coverage of lacrosse, little league games and WNBA games...that says what ESPN thinks of NHRA.

That was a very bizarre incident, thankfully no one was seriously injured.
I'm amazed that it is even possible for the body to whack the throttle on its way up, that shouldn't be able to happen for obvious reasons.

It was unfortunate what happened to Steve Johnson, that would make me just sick inside knowing that I won the final round and had it taken away by some unexplained circumstance. It could have been a hot dog wrapper flopping through the beams for all we know. The evidence from the finish line cam is clear, and it has never created such an illusion before. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of this.

I don't consider NHRA to be a second rate motorsport, just not as popular as NASCAR. Actually I hope it never becomes as popular as NASCAR, ever try to buy a NASCAR ticket? How about having to buy truck and Busch tickets just to get your Sunday ticket. Do you have pit access for the admission price?
Too many hands in the till as far as I'm concerned, remember when they couldn't show highlights of the race for some money related reason.
I'm sorry but I think NASCAR is boring and over rated (flame suit on)
I've been to a few races and have no desire to go back or watch it on TV.
Nothing in this world compares to the sensory overload of witnessing two fuel cars making a pass, especially at night! You can keep your left handers, I'll be spending my money watching the quickest as fastest machines on this planet, while meeting and shaking hands with the drivers and crews as I watch them rebuild and tune their race cars.
NHRA is still the cats azz as far I'm concerned, I'll get off my soap box now.
No disrespect intended, just voicing my opinion.

Amen.

While NASCAR has the largest fan base of all the motorsports, remember one thing....

so does Oprah in her genre. :D :D :D

And to me, they're both women's shows. I'll watch NHRA all day, every day, live OR on TV. I can only take about 10 minutes of a NASCAR race before it's zzzzz-time.

NHRA all the way, baby. I just got back from Indy this weekend and wouldn't miss it for the world. I'll drive right on by a NASCAR race, even if I have free tickets.
