:D just for you guys im putting my single steels on my 87 motor in a few minutes and im using studs this time and im putting some ultra black rtw around the water ports and putting them on DRY

guess we'll see what happens..:)

btw: i tried stacked steel and didnt like it too much
 
One note if you use a used head gasket for the first 4-5 retorques before putting on the shims w/1200: Make sure you put each bolt back into the hole it came out of. The whole point is to burnish in the threads between that bolt and that hole so there are no high spots and the fraction of clamping force versus tightening torque is maximized. You should do this with the nuts on studs, as well. I've also heard it recommended by FelPro (on their web site) and others to snug up the head bolts, torque the intake manifold with a used gasket, then torque the head bolts, to get the best possible intake manifold to head seal.
