Valve adjustment while engine running

Did a search and found very little. I feel that this way is easier. (tried both) My question is am I doing it right. (GN1's, Scorpion rollers, Morel rollers) I get it to operating temperature, pull the valve cover off, loosen the locking nut, loosen the adjusting nut until it starts tapping, tighten it back up until it stops and go a half turn to get the desired preload, lock it back up. Sound about right? What about 3/4's of a turn?
On the Scorpions, what does 1/8th -1/4 turn give you as preload? I've found this info before but I'm failing to now.
