VIN on Frame Location

I am having difficulty locating my VIN on the chassis. Does anyone have a photo of the location or know how many inches back from the front wheel opening or how far forward of the rear wheel opening? Feel free to e-mail josh_shilling@yahoo.com if you do not want to "post" the information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking on the driver's side, bottom flat part of the frame, right under the "body by fisher" logo on the door sill plate. Perhaps I need to wire brush a bit? Is it etched or on a tag?

On all the TR's I have disassembled (dozens). the VIN is stamped on the driver side frame side rail somewhat centered under the door. It is stamped upside down on the vertical portion of the frame. You need to lift the body nearly off the frame to see it.

Supposedly it is also on the hump that goes over the rear end, but you need an ultra violet light to read it. I have been going through a bunch of hoops to get my frame to the California Highway Patrol cause I bought a stolen car without knowing it. It seems like the #s that should be under the drivers door have magically disappeared. Been in this fight for 3 years now. It sucks, ERIC.

Thanks I'll do some wire brushing to find it- I was looking on the horizontal portion of the frame (parallel to the groud) I didn't even look at the vertical part.

So perhaps it "magically" disappeared on mine as well... or has been lost to the rust gypsies. A photo of the location in relation to the body bushing hole would be great if anyone gets bored with their creeper and digital camera.

On this UV VIN - which side would it be on? I would think UV sensitive ink would give up the ghost rather quickly especially after 15+ years. I'll shine my UV light around wildly and see what happens (when it gets here- for fixing oil leaks!!!) ...
