Well I cant find a older 9x11, so I guess I got to buy new. Ive narrowed my choices down to West Coast, Pats, Edge, or PTC. Im looking fo a converter to stall around 3200 and can do WOT lockups. (Its a 72 nova, 406, 240/244 .507/.510" cam, about 450HP and 500TQ, 200-4r, 3.73 rear, 6500RPM limit)

Who would you guys go with? Ive heard good things about them all. I sent a request to WCC and Bill called me, He seems like a real nice guy. I have yet to contact Steve at Pats, and PTC.

All seem to be around 500 bucks.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks

On the PTC stuff Dusty Bradford is your man.
I have a 10 inch LU, 3200 stall from him.
They are designed to only be locked for mileage and not for performance.
Th coupling with out the lock up is good enough to get the job done.

PTC is out if you want WOT lock-up. I wouldn't lock any budget lock-up ($500) if you want it to last. These aren't designed for that purpose. You need to be looking at Precision or a 9x11 designed for WOT locking.

Last time I had my trans out I put a Lock Up converter in it. I am now regretting it because it will not lock at WOT. I may have a leaky front pump though. Even if it did lock at WOT...it would not last long.

Right now my car is going thru the traps at 118 with 15% slippage @ 5775 RPM. Not Locked. If I would have put a Non Lock converter in the car imagine what it would MPH if the converter was at 7 or 8% slippage.

Well the car isnt a 100% drag car, mostly street car. its actually my only car, so it is my daily driver, and it will be driven everyday. Might be dragged 3 times or so at the strip in the summer. I would like lockup for long hauls to Vegas, and highways around here.

Does ANYONE know where I could get a used good condition older 9x11. I cant afford a new billet one

9/11

Post an ad on the parts wanted section. I'm sure there are plenty older 9/11 owners that would sell theirs to step up to a very low slip PTC unit. :D

Did anyone mention PTC yet?:D

Some dude named Dusty is their rep...he supposedly has a fast turbocharged car or something like that.;)

If that's the case, you don't need WOT lock-up. You just need it for interstate driving. PM me your combo and I'll see what I can do.

Finding a converter that can be locked at WOT repeatedly for around $500 is going to be a chore. I dont really know if any that would fit into that budget and be reliable when repeatedly locked. It will slip a lot more when unlocked also. For an application like that you should consider a NL converter. There are just much better choices out there these days. You cant go wrong with a PTC 9.5" NL. More than your budget but worth every penny. Id wait to get the higher $ converter if the cost is a concern. I would avoid a lockup unit in that application especially since it will pull the engine down to hard when locked. Fwiw my 9.5" PTC cruises at under 2500 rpm at 65-70mph. Not a problem at all. When you nail it it comes alive. Spools on the trans brake really well too. Engine goes from 5 psi to 20 psi in under 1.5 seconds on the brake. Going to need an electronic boost controller to keep this thing under control. I cant wait to flat foot launch this thing:biggrin: .
