Weld Vs. Clamp style exhaust

I've been researching exhaust systems and i've come across 2 styles. There's the standard weld up application but there's also one that only uses clamps to seal the pipes. I was wondering if anyone has messed with the clamp version and encountered any problems. It seems easier not having to fire up the welder ( i have to modify my 220 dryer plug everytime i hook it up and the wife gets mad). Thanks for the feedback

Rather than welding or using the muffler style clamps have you looked into using Exhaust band clamps? They make it so that the pipe does not bend or crease and you can uninstall the system without cutting. They are available in just about any size too!

Herb has the right idea.. These work VERY well, and are not a "break the bank" part.
I get them from Summit.. $7.95.
They are made 2 ways:
1. No step in the wrap. Used for butt joints.
2. Stepped. Use them if one pipe slides into the other.

x2 on what Herb said i got mine from Pepboys the price was right about what Summit wanted for them and they don't crush the pipe if ou ever need to take them off

I was told by a member here and a few other guys that the above Clamps can pull apart from time to time.
So I had the shop weld in Flanges. The bad thing about flanges is that you have to replace the gasket every time to mess with it but so far so good.

Welding is forever, with the band clamps you can disassemble the exhaust if needed and really helps at resale time if you decide to change to a different setup. I am running them on my dual 3" system without any issues. As long as your system is supported properly the clamps won't pull apart.

Plus don't be afraid to really tighten the heck out of the clamps....That is what they are made for.
