Went to the import drags today as a friend of mine is really into rotaries and I wanted to check out some of the faster PRO RWD cars there. Some very impressive technology in the big funded teams and many blown up 4 cyl engines in the N/A rounds. More missed shifts than I can count and too many oil downs on the track that wasted time though.
The cool part- saw the Scranton Bros. (formerly turbo Stang racers) and their Turbonetics sponsored Celica with a twin T-76's hung on either side of a PRODUCTION based Tacoma 3.4i V6. Stock based block/crank/cylinder head and many other parts. Car has gone 200mph already! G-force transmission and huge tires out back with data logging sensors everywhere. Big bucks!!! It ran some low 7's today I believe. They said running at around 40psi that it dynoed over 1400hp...... and similar torque!
Also saw a 3 rotor RX-7 (FD model '93-95) with twin turbos run 180mph+ and carry the front tires about 4" off the ground from the launch for nearly 200 ft. That car was trying to break into the 7's but lost traction at the top of the track and he had to let off.
Last but not least witnessed a loss of traction with one of the PRO RWD cars and saw it kiss 2 walls and luckily the driver was fine. I believe it was a 2JZ Supra powered Toyota Solara but not sure.
Lame beat boy/MC/rap contests but pretty sizzling bikini contest
. And open exhaust 4 cylinders get annoying after a while.
