I am in the process of restoring/modifying my gn. I have everything in my sig, I know I need a DP and exhaust as mine is still stock (is stock exhaust in good shape worth anything?) my question is should I get a larger turbo ot alky 1st?

Alky, from Alkycontrol.
Don't turn up the boost without it, unless you plan on running race gas in the absence of Alky, converting to E85, or have steady supply of 93 octane or better in your area.

What are you planning on doing with your car? How big of a turbo are you planning on going with?

What type of car enthusiast are you?
Do you check over things regularly and monitor your tune daily?
Are you willing to purchase multiple diagnostic tools and gauges to monitor the added cylinder pressure alky allows so it doesn't destroy your love of driving your GN?

As much as we all love alky, it's not for everyone. And there is a time we all might have said, I should've stopped here. :frown:

My two cents, I dont care what other mods you have or want. After uprading your fuel pump and an adj fuel pressure reg and a scan tool, Alky SHOULD be your #1 mod.

If you want to run high octane fuel then get the turbo and crank it up otherwise get the alky.

why are you changing your tune daily ??? we DRIVE our fleet of Alky cars an do nothing with the "tune" daily

Hmmmm what about just using a scanmaster .. Tune for NO KNOCK and leave it alone. DETONATION is goin to kill your car !! Cut an dry.

why isn't it for everyone.. Just because you have all sorts of problems doesn't mean everyone else will . You like to "try" different things .. NO problem but if something screws up "thats life in the big city"

How is your E85 doin:confused:

I'm not slamming Alky as I run it on two FI cars, just putting out a different scenario and questions for the OP to think about since this whole thread will have X1, X2, X1000000.

If OP says he wants a 10 second GN, than a bigger turbo will be needed as it appears he's got the stocker still. If he says he's a mile from 110 octane that changes things too, but someone needs to ask, not assume. Because running race gas or even a blend is easier than Alky, I know as I did it for over 3 years daily and only changed to Alky due to 110 being $6.50 a gal out here now.

Also, I asked, "Do you check over things regularly and monitor your tune daily?"
Where does it say change your tune daily?
It does imply that you're willing to get gauges and be a gauge hawk since higher cylinder pressure will end a nice cruise fast.

Ok just get a Scanmaster, because that's all you need to tune right?
Well, doesn't Razor sell a PSI gauge now for his alky kits, yes.
I guess he's just trying to rob the GN community because all you really need is JUST a Scanmaster. I don't think so, bring more kids to the pool and you need more lifeguards.

Why isn't Alky for everyone, because we're all not named Grumpy and have over 30 years of performance vehicle experience.

T-Typex1, you can recommend whatever, it's a forum, but I don't think everyones 4th mod should be Alky.

What's, How's your E85 doing" supposed to mean in regards to the OP's question?
I've said more than I'd like to in this thread and won't say more to derail it by answering that in massive detail but, it's making more power than gas and alky and needs more than a Scanmaster to tune.

cant go wrong with either one. not sure what turbo your looking to get or what your goals are but a turbo before alky could be a good idea as well. i like to max my tune and get it run at its peak then put alky on and tune for its peak.

Nothing like installing alky on a crap tuned car and trying to tune it. Better to have a solid running car then install alky.

I didn't see where he said a 10 sec car ?? Race gas ?? who said anything about that ?? NO way would I run race gas unless ya just drive your car around the block :p

no proble to watch a scanmaster . Again I am usung the car a LOT . So I don't have to stare at a guage.

hahahaha...We have talking cars up here. we listen to what our cars tell us !!

Well most guys here are not goin 9s or 10s.. If you can't get a stocker in the 11s/12s ...wellll:biggrin:l

He was wrong !!! It should be #1 mod after you get the car in a good condition to "use" hard. Lots of guys keep throwing parts at a car that has a problem rather than finding the problem.

Thanks for everyones opinions. this is a street car that I will drive to shows, work once in awhile, out on the town, and to the track no more than a weekend or 2 a yr. I am looking for more bottom end. Not sure on the turbo was gonna go ta49 but have been told I will want more power and regret not going bigger. again quick spool and bottom end is more important to me than et's

Stock turbos can go low 12/ mid12s pretty easy .. 44/49 can go 11s easy.. Alky will make it so much easier to do !!

I would go w/alky ,first thing also. With todays gas,you sometimes get bad gas, lower octane, who know what else.

It will save your engine, for the most part.
I had a Aquamist 1S sytem before & it basically superchilled the intake temps thus reducing chances of detonation. A/F ratios did not change w/the Aquamist.

With the Alky control you can change your A/F ratios by a lot .
