Yeah, thats why I was recommending that he go with a low stall TC, but to go with the 16930 nontheless. It was only getting 1-2psi by 3200 because it was around a 4000 stall TC....I didnt pick the combo...some moron in the past totally destroyed the car and its been a painful journey undoing his damage. It takes 1 idiot to throw a pot of gold in the bottom of the lake, and all the wise men in the village cant get it back out. Anyway, the 16930 is an excellent TC, and if you have it stalled right, it wont cost you any mpg...maybe 1-2 at the most on the highway. Just make sure to get a non lock pump valve and a tranny fluid cooler if you dont have one already. And also, if its stalled right, it wont cost you much in terms of trap speed. Trust me on this TC. Its like a nuclear bomb when matched to a 44. A serious contender. Only problem is that its not cheap. I gave mine away in a trade with a 9-11 that I never installed. Had I known my mileage wouldnt improve, I never would have taken it out. It was like a 100 shot of nitrous compared to the D-5.It sounds like your car may be rich or have a pre turbo exhaust leak. A TE44 should not go to 3200 RPM without spooling (unless it was a 4K stall converter, I guess). Making only 1-2 psi of boost at 3200 RPM doesn't make sense.
A N/L converter won't mph with a small turbo like a L/U converter will, even a heavy ass D5.
If you have ported heads and a cam, a loose converter and a big turbo can work. A TE44, not so much.
A loose N/L converter with a TE44/TA49 is not ideal for high mph, regardless of what your butt dyno is telling you.
